At first I got worried with the limitations of this "smartphone". I really wanted to use it as a video and music player. Thank God for the internet and video converters! I download videos from youtube.com (flash format) and then convert it to AVI and then finally to mp4 format! The video quality is still excellent so it was worth it (despite the numerous conversions).
Also, I've been using this phone for the past 3 months now.
- Still haven't mastered it's camera (especially the flash). Often times I need to correct the photos (good thing this phone can correct the photos before having them printed).
- The battery life is low especially when using wi-fi. Often times, the battery doesn't last 2 days. My previous z520i's battery can last 3 days, of course that doesn't have a wi-fi capability.
- I removed the numpad and it works better (at least for me). Tons of applications are easier to use. The qwerty pad is OK, despite the keys being tiny.
- I've dropped it once on a cement floor and the nice thing about it is that it didn't break like most people say this phone would. The camera and screen still is working fine and there are no cracks in the housing! Hooray for plastic LOLZ
- Problem though with its browser (a little too ordinary) plus when I'm using yahoo mail, some characters would appear differently once you read the email in a PC. If I'm not mistaken, if its not the browser, the qwerty pad might by at fault due to the ALT key (you need to press the ALT key to type in a number, but once I read my email in a PC, numerous characters would appear. Also, the flash format can never be played in this phone. I think most mobile phones cannot play or view flash format sites.
- Love the touch screen. For three months now, the screen doesn't have scratches in it.
- Not into gaming and the problem with removing the numpad is that it gets more difficult to play the QUADRAPOP game. The QUADRAPOP game in z520i is more fun with better music.
- thank GOD for zedge.net because I found tons of theme for this model. There are tons of games there too, but not into gaming.
- Here in the Philippines, P990i are now down to P14,000 = 1 year warranty. Three months ago, I bought it for P15,500 with only 1 month warranty. It seems that this model got a negative review from most Pinoys (who are Nokia die-hard fanatics) plus I guess because of the negative reviews on this phone in general.
- I love SE phones! From a z520i, I moved to a P990i. A little worried at first because of the negative reviews but it's working well for me. Plus it's a bargain!

I love this phone. has 3rd party apps if you feel incomplete with built in function. only problem is with the Volume. Is installing 3rd party app for audio can make louder? Thanks.

Thanks a lot farhad.. But i just have a doubt.. does all sony phone behave like this.. if i zoom in then the picture gets blured.... other wise the picture is fine...and one more thing..the picture doesnt get blured when it is out side ( In the natural sunlight) even if i zoom 100%.. Y is it so...? i have kept all the settings proper...

Hi helosuny, my name is also sunny. I am using this phone from last r months. Yes there is a online player in media player and in this u can steam audio as weel as video without third party applications. Yes this true that u can't record calls, but i heard about softwares but ihave not installed yet. And screen is good but on the main screen a thin layer is already installed from company to protect the main internal screen but i have installed a scratch gaurd film. It protect ur screen and it is cheaper. Bye

i cannot get my battery to charge on my p990i. The message of "replace main batteries" pops up every time the phone restarts, and I just cannot charge the battery at all. Can someone please tell me what i can do with my scenario?

Hi All,
I am using a Nokia 9500 Communicator and am planning to purchase P990i. Now I am having 3 queries for existing users.
1 - How tough is the screen of P990i ? (I am used to have the screen safe inside my communicator. Thus I am worried about the strength of an open screen). Further, how resistant is the screen of 990i to scratches. This question becomes specially important when we are discussing a TOUCH Screen.
2 - Had anyone of you been able to listen to streaming audio in this phone with/without using a third party application. If yes, then pls give me some details.
3 (Not very important) - I read that It supports voice recording in Standby mode only !! Is it true or is it possible to record calls also.
I shall be pleased to get answers to these questions by Actual Users.

hi,
Can anyone pls tell me what is the latest fw version.
Everytime(3 times already) I update it through update service it updates my phone..isnt it suppose to put the latest fw in 1st shot or it goes step by step 1 fw at at a time.
I ran the update service the 4th time and its asking me again to hold C and connect usb so that it can update.
Really confused ..pls help

Just 2 weeks back i got my P990i with lot of hopes. but right now i'm facing severe problem with it. i'm not able to take any picture from it. when i go to camera mode the moble gets switched off. can anyone please help me out of this? what needed to be changed? do i need to reinstall teh SW again? if so where is it available. do i need to pay for it?

To Olayinka:
Once you are in camera mode, press the setting button i.e the one above the return key on the flip(keypad). This will open up the setting menu. With your Jog dial scroll till you reach Light. Press the cetre key of the D-pad to select 'On'.
That's it. Hope this helps you.

To kenny, asd and the gentleman/lady who has not disclosed the name but posted me a suggestion.
A BIG THANK YOU to you all.
I have finally managed to get the complete upgrade and now have just one version of the firmware. I did the upgrade from a different computer and on a faster internet connection. Now the phone works nicely.
Without your suggestions and advice it would not have been possible.
Once again THANK YOU all.
To all those thinking about buying a P990i, the P990i is a good phone - just dont get a refurbished or tampered phone.

To Abhi; If you want to take a nice photo with auto focus never zoom on the object and you've to select macro or normal mode form the menu.Macro mode most of the time gives us a proper result for the nearest objects.To take your photo first push the button to focus then push the button again to take the pic. (FARSHAD)
