Hi, just need an opinion here. I tried using WLAN function and i can scan and connect to it but i can't browse the internet. All i get everytime i try to connect to a website is "cannot locate server" what do you think is the problem? by the way i'm here at philippines. thanks!

The sound quality of the built-in speaker is average. If you use the SE earphone or external speakers then it's really good.

Where is the successor of this phone (P990)? I have been using this almost one year now (next month to be exact). I don't want to replace my P990 with the P1 because mainly of the screen size difference. I don't think P1 is its successor. I just hope SE will announce P990 successor before end of this year with a 3.5" screen size (like iPhone) also with 5.0Megapixel camera, 30fps video recording. Please, please, please, please.

I am using P990 since last 4 months and I am very much satisfied with this handset. This is my first SE handset. I have used Nokia and LG previously. There are no doubt certain shortcoming with P990 like low memory and slightly slow performace. But at the same time it's a nice handset which combines PDA functionality with ease of a normal handset. I am using R9F011 firmware and I am happy with it. Alarm sound is enough with default alarm tone.
What I liked about P990 is,
-very good built quality, no plastic feel
-good display
-nice qwerty keybord, its small but easy to use
-good battery life if you disable 3G, wifi, bluetooth(it lasts for atleast 2 days which is good for this kind of handset)
-good connectivity and call quality
-very good organizer
-decent camera
All in all it's a good handset.

I think that the real culprit is JAVA. Only java apps. tend to crash. now there are many UIQ 3 apps out so i've tried and they r simply seamless: no hanging or crashing plus they execute much faster. Originally java was intended to be run on any type of hardware if it had java interpreter installed without ne performance loss but in reallity there are always some bugs which we see when we run java apps. On the other hand UIQ is specifically designed for this hardware so .sis apps work very fast. I bet that when equal amount of apps come out in the market UIQ is gonna be competing with S60 and if its not totally a hardware fault maybe the prices of this fone will rise again.

The price of $320 P990 is so cheap and no other phone even with $1200 Nokia E90 can compare to this phone. Screen resolution is beautiful. You don't need 16M colors. All phones has bugs. With new firmware, P990 is fast and does not hang at all even with 4 appz or maybe more open at same time. Few 3rd party appz takes at most 3 seconds to open not 30 or 45 sec. Phone book/contact does not crash unless you doing the firmware update without backing up your stuff, then you will loose everything. You can use music player & radio in background while you working on other appz except on games. RDS works with few stations only.

it is a very good phone and i am not a se fan i had a nokia 9300 before but trust me you get on to the touch screen and a qwerty thumb-board typing is gr8 dont listen to all the negative comments buy the phone from a original se dealer and upgrade to the latest software you will be fine and yes the ram is less but i manage to surf the net listen to radio write an sms mms at the same time no probs but pls do not install a 3rd party software unless its symbian signed you will be perfectly fine and pls dont listen to shakeels comments this guy wants to surf the net,watch videos, play mp3,take a video,read rss,play games,sms,mms,ems,voip and many other things at the same time which it wont do i dont understand one thing why do you want to e mail and surf the ner ,sms and all tasks at the same time.you write an e mail or surf the net i can understand listen to music while write an e mail or sms any ways its a gr8 phone go for it ..

eniwei... is this phone can take pic. on front? unlike nokia that can take pic. in front of the cam... just like the second VGA cam...or is this the trend of SE that you cannot take pic. using their second CAM./ front cam..
and hows the sound quality..screen...
and is it true that we can surf the net using this phone? and when ur at loc. wifi zone using this phone you can log onto to some internet browser. like yahoo, and some internet browser? cause one of the feature of this phone is it has WIFI...

First of all Thanks alot for Helping Me
When i got this set its Firware was
R7A001 CDA R3B01
there was no Messaging problem no wrong delivery status no wrong receiving status
Then here one of guy (doministry) in 990 posts told me for upgrade my phone then i upgrade it to R9F011 also in this Firware there was no message time status bug
creating this problem only from R9G007
So this thing confirmed bug is in Firmware
Do u know some thing more how have to solve this problem?
Any news for New Firmware?
Just waiting for my cheque then i will go for P1 in a week

Shakeel this is for u especially,
SMS Time problem issue
Do check one thing go in control panel-->Device--->location
Set your current time zone & Home Time Zone same (by selecting the appropriate city of your location from drop down menu)
The Zone of interest will be changed.
But the time for SMS will be okay afterwards.
