Another thing with this new S series is that the themes actually match the color of the phone now.
For the W580 and it's gray/cyan color version, the background was still orange, though it matched the white/orange version of the phone.
Personally, if I can flash the OS to get walkman, and still have the ever-changing wallpaper and matching theme, then this is the phone for me.
Also, I think the S series is also a page straight from the Japanese SE phones. They're all like this, and appearantly, we get a piece of their stylish phones too without wasting money on a phone that won't even work here, just to have it for style.

a k750i can be flash upgraded to w810i ie ur standard issue k750i can have walkman on it. im sure the same can be applied for the s500 and the w580.
so in regards to the question raised earlier ---> what is the difference between the S500 and the W580 ASIDE from the new exterior design?
Nothing, the S500 lacks the walkman capabilities but other than that ur essentially buying the same phone. If you use your phone for MP3 then im sure you'll be able to flash the OS to walkman.
when abouts will it come out? i am guessing around quarter 2 since thats what the GSM article says. the w580i from memory is q3

The "ever-changing wallpaper" concept is what Samsung is using in their Ultra series for quite a while now. But SE added matching illumination to create amazing effects. Would look better in the dark though. Constraction seems solid.
Cheers

N95 is big, style-wise and design, this one is better.
By features, this one loses out by a couple of steps, not taking in the infamous 5MP that Nokia's bolted on.
Otherwise, this is an S series because I think SE is releasing a S for Style series. It's just exactly like the W580, but not branded as Walkman. It's more of the Ericsson line of SE phones. the W series is the Sony line of SE phones.
Just like how the new P1 is named the way it is instead of P999 or so on. It is because everything, is becoming simple again. P1, for PDA/Smartphone series, model 1.
btw, it's not a clickwheel. On the higher resolutions pictures at SonyEricsson.com, there is a small engraving on the top of the round d-pad that's in the shape of the camera application.
We should be seeing more S series that look like the W series, but only more stylish and redesigned. I mean, I bought a MOTO RAZR V6 Maxx because it had the touch-sensitive buttons, and all because of the style.
Just like how people buy the LG K and KG series for it's touch-sensitive looks.
Why can't SE run in the design race with also taken for granted features like a 2mp camera, EDGE, A2DP, Walkman 2.0 application and of all, SE quality assurance. Even these little things beat many designed based phones.
The Prada phone and LG shine series excepted.

this phone is beautiful. now im confused as to which one i want...w580 or s500...w580 has radio...which this doesnt...that's the only feature i noticed that differs. but gosh this phone arouses my material desire...hopefully their prices wont rape our pockets when they release...

How can you compare this to the n95 =.="
one thing this does have the n95 don't, is a better design! well in my opinion.
Also the UI looks interesting.
