the only difference between the S710 and the S700 is the "EDGE" tech? Is it really worth a couple more benjamins?

Alex, what I've been told by the SE Rep is that the Vodafone S700i can use MP3's at ringtones BUT it will only allow MP3's downloaded from Vodafone to be used as Ringtones. Any MP3's put on there by yourself can only be played through the MP3 player.
Edsel, no the S700i does not have the ability to record up to 1 hour of continues video. It can only record about 2mins per video (Depending on the amount of memory left). BUT the quailty of the still photo's is worth the sacrifice of the video limit.
Also thanks for adding on to my post. I was going to explain it but I didn't have all the data on hand at the time. And we also don't use EDGE in Australia, so the fact that it's missing doesn't really bother me. We don't even use HSCSD, we use GPRS which has a speed of around 40kbps.
Have a good one

in addition to Sonor's response and for the information of everyone here, there are two main differences between S710 and S700. 1) S710 is an EDGE (Enhanced Data Rate for GSM Evolution) capabled phone while S700 still uses the old HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data) technology. EDGE is alot faster than HSCSD. If you try to compare the data speed between the 2 SE phones, S710 is capable of handling data rates of up to 177 kbps, while S700 can only handle data rates of up to 48 kbps. Obviously, accessing the internet using S710 is almost 4 times faster than using S700. But of course, you can only use EDGE if your network provider supports EDGE technology =) 2) Both phones are operational in 3 bands. S710 can operate at the 850/1800/1900 MHz band while S700 can operate at the 900/1800/1900 MHz band. Here in the Philippines we cannot use S710 bec. we are using the 900 MHz band. as for the other minor differences, i'am not fully aware of them because i'm only basing my comparison from the specs. given by SE. Hope this clarifies the issue about the difference S710 and S700 =)

Ok, just to clear things up. I bought one on Monday. It has 32MB of internal memory and memory stick can go up to 128MB. The phone can play WAV files and the phone can use MP3 for ringtones (Unless you get a Vodafone one). It is a great phone, the camera is awesome and everything works great. You can go through the phone book by using more than one letter E.G. Name: Rick, you can press R then I and it will go to Rick. Reception and sound quailty are top notch. Have no issues with it at all. Infact, it's better than my old Nokia by far. The differance between the S700 and S710 is only the bandwidth the phones run off. The S710 is for the America's and the S700 is for ever where else. Oh and the S710 does not have a radio but it has EDGE instead (Used to access the net on the phone). Hope that clears things up.

Guys from the Phlippines! S700 is available in Semicon (www.semicon.net)for about P37,000.00 ( a li'l bit on the pricy side). I guess we'll have to wait for a few months or for S710a to be available, which ever is more convenient.

it has one of the greatest phone. Great because it has one of the best entertainment embedded in the phone. However, i will personally vote agaisnt buying the phone. I just bought s700, it has the WORST phone reception. I have to talk much louder and yet my friends on the other side still barely hear clearly. They hear a voice double and the clarity is the worst ever i have found on the phone. I mean it even worst than the very old nokia 8250..... Anyone who have bought the phone, please do tell me is there a way to fix this .. thank you sooo much

Yup... you expect too much... next time do a good research about the phone before buying... and may the force be with you when you buy P1000.... do yourself a favor, try to investigate first before you buy...
