yugam11, 11 Oct 2009hey luke thanks for short review......two questions 1st wat... moreHi

Unfortunately comes with standard SE headphones! Nothing flashy im afraid.

as for audio quality. Exceptional through good headphones (tried my own noise cancelling panasonic and sounds great)

Average at best on loud speaker. To me, sounds like its definately mono, although mono of ok quality. Cant for the life of me hear the 2 stereo speakers that has been claimed is in there. Dissapointing.

In reply to the lagging question -

Yes. Not loads, but enough to annoy a user who expects better from the phone. Menu's slow down, and whilst mostly clicking on a menu button works fine, it can show diplay problems, like a blank screen for a few seconds, before you get to where you wanted

hi all i should be getting my satio tomorrow and was wondering what sony are like for updates as this was one of my only let downs with the samsung innov8 and also i know the satio does not play divx but is divx hardware or software and if it is softwear could be added at a latter date

This phone's feature set is amazing in nearly every way except for the fact that the touch screen is resistive. All of the reviews that I've read concerning this have complained about the phone's lack of responsiveness. I've used phones with such a problem and it is really a major issue and a deal breaker.

Someone mentioned that with the Omnia HD, you couldn't where gloves while operating the phone since it was capacitive. Well, they should see the mini-review that Tims tech had done. The entire video has a guy with gloves on using the phone.

jack, 11 Oct 2009hi...what about screen on direct sun light? viewable? th... moreIt's good actually. I had my worries, but it suprised me. Admittedly if you hold it on certain angles trying for the sun to blind it, you'll struggle to see abit, but general usage outside, with the brightness up, is more then fine.

Still lags a little behind the iphone, which for all its faults is probably the best for legibility, but the satio performs well. Far better then my x1 for instance.

The camera's are comparable, but as someone who doesnt use it too much, my choice would be based on usability, which is the one area the satio lets itself down.

                  Hi

as far as i can tell, the front camera is for video calling only, there seems to be no option to take a picture with it.

Divx is a certain file format for videos. Most videos downloaded from torrents are divx ones, and if a phone supports divx, most video files can simply be placed on to phone, and played straight away, without having to convert the file on a PC first, which is time consuming and annoying. Windows mobile phones can use a player called coreplayer, which supports nearly all video formats. Phones that dont support divx usually only play video in the format of an mpeg - 4 (mp4)

                  Hope that answers it!

Can the front camera be used to take photo or it can only be used for video call? Also, what is divx used for in the phone? Since everybody is complaining that Satio does not have divx. Thanks before for answering!

Never normally post on here, mainly due to the fact that 80% of users sound like inbreds. However, i've had 3 days with the retail version now (work at CPW) and here are my thoughts -

(Bare in mind my current phone is an X1, and i am a big fan of sony, and had high expectations for this to blow my mind..)

                            Build quality -

Ok. Battery cover is a very cheap flimsy plastic, but aside from that its ok. No metal parts, which is a shame, but would have put the price up. camera slider is very good, very sturdy, although whilst scrolling on the touch pad i found my hand placement pulling the slider down. Weighs what you'd expect.

                            Screen -

Nice screen, although resolution should be 800 really, it would certainly aid what is supposed to be sony's flahship. Good size. Touch is, in my opinion, poor though. The touch on my x1 is far superior and uses the same resistive tech. Scrolling though large images is fine, but accuracy without the stylus is poor.

                            OS -

Not a fan of symbian, hated the 5800 and the n97 because of this, and unfortunately my hopes of sony elevating the software to 'useable' havent been met. It is still clunky, prone to slowness, and really very boring. It also has a habit of blanking the screen every so often as it catches up. As usual, some menus require a single tap, some require a double tap to navigate, with seemingly no apparent reason. Speed is ok, what you'd expect from a launch version with no software update. The areas sony have done themselves, eg home screen, have nice transitions and work fluidly, however the rest of the symbian system is same old. Its ugly, tempremental, and in my eyes really drags the phone down. The on screen texting key pad in landscape is particularly poor accuracy wise, and as the stylus isnt fiytted within the case, and i dont want it dangling off it causing scratches, i'd probably find myself not texting much with it.

                            Web -

Default browser is awful. Slow, unresponsive, exactly like the N97's really. I downloaded both opera min, and opera mini beta, and both work better, but are still slow to navigate, and lack the fluidity of opera on a windows device for instance. It is no where comparable to safari on the iphone unfortunately, and whilst it renders nice on the big screen, it isnt as polished as you'd expect on such a high end device.

                            Camera -

Wonderful. Crisp, great colour balance. Does tend to take darker pictures in normal lighting however, so you may find yourself playing with the exposure quite a bit to let a bit more light in. Zoom's good, to a point, after about a quarter of the way into the zoom bar it appears to me it turns into a digital zoom, and picture quality gets hammered. Video is quite superb, very smooth, playing at between around 24 frames and 30 frames. Artifacting is kept to a minimum, colours are vivid and sound is recorded well. The camera is hands down the best on any mobile I've seen through my job (basically all mobs within the last 5 years) and is the one defining factor of this phone. May be enough for some to get over the symbian atrocity, not for me sadly.

                            Other plus points -

Usual media menu, although with added speed, is very very fluid.
                            8gb card included
Video looks beautiful on the screen, as does viewing pictures
                            Customisable homescreen
Decent battery life considering its applications

                            Negatives -

Still no divx. shame on you sony.
NO FRICKIN 3.5 jack! i've read all the arguements for the fast port, but none that convince me.
Stylus not part of the body.
Accelorometer has a mind of its own sometimes.
Did i mention how much the symbian engine holds it back??

I've probably left a bunch of stuff out, but there you go, thems my views. Would I get it? I've waited with an upgrade due for 3 months to get this phone, and after a day with it I couldnt find any reason to go for it, other then the camera, which I dont really use too often. As a phone, it is no better then a 5800. As a camera, its the best out there. Maybe a few software updates will change my opinion (stabilise the OS) but for now, I am much more interested in the Aino, the rumoured x3, and the n900 and its use of linux based OS.

Any questions feel free to shoot, I have one in my hand right now and i'll answer anything I can.
