Samsung announced on several sites they were working on a 12MP camera phone for the future, but it’s Sony that has beat them to the punch and actually announced the world’s first 12 MP CMOS image sensor for handsets, and the technology should be in phones as soon as March 2009, according to Sony.
The Asian half of the Sony Ericsson partnership has just gone official with unveiling the IMX060PQ, a 1/2.5 CMOS image sensor from the Exmor series that, apparently, has the industry’s highest Megapixel count: 12.25 MP, which rivals and beats some dedicated digital cameras.
The new 12.25 MP sensor is equipped with autofocus and various other photo enhancement features. Its price is said to be around 2,500 Japanese yen ($26 USD wholesale), so the phones to include it should not be more expensive than the 8 Megapixel ones that are already on the market (such as the Sony Ericsson C905, Samsung Innov8 or LG Renoir). I’m sure there will be an early “premium” involved with the price tags, as with any fancy new technology, but that should settle down quickly enough.
Needless to say, the handsets that will include Sony’s IMX060PQ will be made by Sony Ericsson first, so I guess we should expect some really amazing 12MP Cyber-shot phones to come in 2009 (rumors are they’re already working on a 12MP, it is IDOU

i have seen picture quality of the new SONY cybershoot 12MP is the best right now..i didnt say about the size of 12MP. Yes, 12MP on 360 x 640 screen is useless but there are many other things that make it to be good besides pixel part so these things influence picture quality on screen although the screen is even only qvga.
because of idou only use 360 x 640 screen i hope idou use vga video so this phone is not too expensive..vga video on 360 x 640 screen is good enough for 360 x 640 screen, isnt it?The most important thing of video is quality not about size so dont worry if idou only use vga video except to people who want to transfer their video to PC or plug it to LCD TV so HD video is recomended
but SE hasnt annouced resolution of video yet, if SE announce it that idou use HD video so this phone is recomended but iam sure it will be very expensive.

Again and again, all NOKIA fan boys are jelous with this amazing new SE phone Idou. Why these people cannot just accept that SE phones are far better than NOKIA crappy phones all made in plastic lol. If you NOKIA fan boys cannot accept it, then just go away in this forum and go to NOKIA forum then praise NOKIA phones made of cheap plastic. You should be happy that SE made a decent and high-tech phones in this world.

nick, 22 Feb 2009your argument was theres no point in HD video on a screen t... moreat first you must know iam happy of 12MP because this is the first phone use 12MP camera in the world right now and i didnt say about the quality of 12MP, yes i agree with you higher 12MP doesnt mean it has a good quality but fortunetly, sony is made it and i have seen the new Sony cybershoot 12MP camera picture quality in official sony site, the picture quality is the best right now, it has better cybershoot quality than before..
i just want if this idou use HD video i hope Idou use HD screen too so i can watch a HD video every places and every time at full quality, no need LCD TV or port to PC it is the reason why company implemented video on phone but if i must plug it to PC or LCD TV so it is not special anymore.wasting money!

Yes size does matter! Thats why the camera makers are moving to larger sensors, the larger the photo receptor the better it performs. Seriously how well do you really think this 12mp camera will perform? It is tiny and the photo receptos must be microscopic lol.
Tell me this, if this camera phone is going to be so wonderfull for all its mega pixels then why are camera manufactures still producing cameras with less than 12mp? Surely we should have a seen 50mp point and shoot by now lol.
I challenge any phone manufacture to show that their whatever mp camera phone will perform half as well as a dedicated camera of the same mp.
I say again, 12mp is pointless but they have done it becuase you wanted it lol.

The news today said that this idou have to be cancelled cause it's too costly to build. They said that they don't enough money to make s.e fan happy and they said to the s.e fan that they can have this phone in their dream.

12mp? thats great....whats the use? it is very much vivid and color and can print the picture that was taken in very large size considering it is 12mp...

and also, most people transfer their photos and videos onto the computer, so then the video size does matter doesnt it
