I have had this phone for 2 weeks now. Overall, I like this phone because it's cheap and has good features. I can go to Google maps and GPS with this phone. However, the battery life is so bad especially when I use it for YM, GPS and e-mail. It's only take 2 days stand by for me and 8-9 hours for talk time. It's too bad. Now, I am looking for the battery replacement and it might be longer life time than eom. Any suggestion?

ja, 03 Oct 2008How come the screen shows up very slowly?I found the in store demo a bit sluggish in response, but the phone I bought has a GUI that is plenty fast. I wouldn't call it instantaneous, but not at all a problem.

For the average user this phone is perfect. I typically spend maybe 5-10 minutes on my phone daily, and send like 5-10 text messages as well. I use this nothing more than as a phone, I am a pre-paid T-Mobile customer and have been for about 3 years, I just don't spend enough time on my phone to see myself commiting to a contract.
The camera on this phone is fairly nice, I bought a cheap OEM USB cable and it works great, plan to get a 2GB M2 card as well for more storage of MP3 ringtones and photo space. You can find them online for a fraction of the cost.
I personally love the design and look of this phone. I got a new emerald version of it for about 20% off of retail, so I am quite pleased with it.
The only downside to this phone is the constant need to charge it. I have to charge it every other night even with my minimal usage of it. Kinda annoying when my 4 year old Motorola was about once a week. But I will deal with the constant need to recharge for the overall sound quality performance I have gained by upgrading to this phone.
If you are fairly regular phone user and need it for texting, calls and a picture every now and then. I don't see why this phone wouldn't be for you, just remember the battery life that they state is a lie and rated the phone down significantly for me.

Moderately high SAR level. That's one reason battery is draining very fast

Yes, the phone can use mp3s as ringtones.
THe phone is beautiful in my opinion, extremely fast on the 3G network. I've benchmarked its speed more than once, and it is always around 770kbps download and almost 100kbps upload.
the sound is good on the speaker, for music.
The speakerphone is ok, not nearly as loud as the music for some reason, but better than my previous phones, so I'm not complaining.
The call volume is decent, I think it could be louder, but again... better or the same as any of my previous phones, so no complaints.
Camera is nice, pics look good, but I don't really use that feature.
The only real DRAWBACK to this phone:
Battery Life. Forget whatever you read. the phone only gets about 50 hours of charge life with Bluetooth turned off, no use of internet, gps turned off and maybe about 15 minutes of calling per day, no texting. this is in a G3 Network Environment. I've been told by the Tmobile retailer that it is just the nature of the phone. I've been also told that this is one of the fastest G3 phones around, and that is part of the reason for the fast draining of the battery. It is with certainty the fastest G3 phone that Tmobile has to offer. Faster than the G1 phone.
Using the phone costantly tethered to my Nokia N800 tablet PC through bluetooth, and sporadically accessing internet thorughout the day, including downloading youtube videos, and letting my e-mail and all other applets costantly access the internet, refreshing every 10 minutes through it, the battery lasts from morning to night, and is left with about 30% life by the end of the day.
The more you access internet, the more it drains battery.
All in all. It is definitely usable, but must be recharged daily if using it heavily. I really like this phone but I am bummed about the battery life. I bought the phone expecting longer lasting battery, but I've been told that had I bought other G3 phones I might have been even more disappointed in that regard.
BTW I also called Sony Ericsson and asked about it. THey just said: "Do you want to send the phone in for repair at your expense?" I said no and asked if there were any known issues regarding the phone's battery life, and they had no idea.
