Hi, Some feedback regardng both the W715 and W705 phones. After quite a bit of research and hard decisions comparing a bunch of phones, I got my wife the W705 and then two months later got myself a W715.
In the end the choices of phones was easy as I was looking for good quality mid range handsets that offered a good feature set. Important to me in the decision process was features, size, weight, style and quality and both the W705 and W715 met the criteria while still being considered a mid range handset that would be available on our respective midrange plans through our providers. Some of the other brands that I was comparing too had phones that didn't quite match my needs for one reason or another, especially after I was given the chance to sample some of them first hand and also read through some reviews and feedback.
I can say now that after some time owning these phones we are both very happy with each handset. Both phones are identical with the W715 having the added GPS module which was something that was on my checklist (hence waiting a bit longer for it).
I like both these phones as they are small and compact in size with good build quality and a good feature set that is easy to use. Battery life is pretty good and in general neither phone has any serious flaws. I really think SE have done a good job with the UI and overall useable experience, and it was something that I really liked when comparing against some of the other handsets on offer.
Performance is great (mine a little slow to boot up), the WiFi works well. Both phones have data plans and get used for browsing the internet which works better than I expected. The keypad feels better than the competitors that I compared it too and the screen is great, especially like the 2.4inch size and importantly the phone call quality is great. Also like the PC suite software which works well on my PC for both phones.
Some points that I could offer are: camera not great in low light, GPS module in W715 can sometimes take a little while to get a signal, although that seems to be OK now. The loudspeaker is a little low.
For me personally I was even more happier with my W715 after I had taken the time to debrand the phone and then flashed to the latest SE generic firmware. I also spent a bit of time customising my phone with my own customized menu that suited my needs more, along with a number of other little tweaks. I can report back that the debranding and generic firmware offered a performance improvement over the Vodafone firmware, although booting up is a little slower. It was definitely a worthwhile exercise,(even opened up some hidden apps such as the torch light).
I can recommend either of these two phones that I have mentioned, the W715 being that bit better with the GPS module. I would also suggest that if you are able to (or you choice of plans offers), stretch for the W995 as from the brief experience that I have had with the W995, I can say that anything the W705 and W715 can do the W995 does better. The bigger 2.6 inch screen of the W995 is just that bit nicer and the camera works really well, the kaypad is better as well as a few other little minor things that all add up to it being a better phone.
Hope this helps with those that are considering either the W705 or W715 handset. I know that my wife and I are both happy with our hansets and in the comming months when my contract is up, I will be looking to upgrade my W715 to a W995 which I can get on a similar plan to what I am on now.
