W-----> is Walkman phone [for those who needs music functions]
K-----> initially for Camera phone, but I think now it will be replaced by C-series.From what I heard, K-series will become series for connectivity [for those who needs internet connections on their mobile phone]
C-----> will replace K-series in camera funtions
T and J-----> is low end series
Z-----> is Clamshell series
G-----> is business phone
P-----> some kind of PDA phone
S-----> for snapshot [slightly different from the K-series]
F-----> is for game purposes

With all the different SE groups, what's the difference?
W is the Walkman series, meant for music

P is the Productivity series, meant for business and considered by some the flagship line since it incorporates many features from various SE lines

Anonymous, 13 Jul 2008I thought the playlist thing only applies to files without ... moreThe playlist "thing" appears to affect any files.
Tried ripping songs from a 3rd party software like Roxio or Nero then drag n drop the files onto the media card.
I had to painstakingly create a playlist from the phone then add EACH of the files into the playlist!! How frustrating especially since I NEVER get Media Manager 1.1 to work!!
I then copied all my files from my 8GB iPod nano back to the computer then drag n drop them into the media card. A playlist is already created from iTunes and is automatically recognized by the media player upon updating the files.
So... one must create a playlist FIRST to make playback Easier!
Anyone care to troubleshoot how Media Manager 1.1 can be "fixed" to work if all the software requirements are met??
Already contact SE tech support and they recommend uninstalling then reinstalling the software with any background software (i.e. AV or firewall) turned Off!
I already did that Many times and Media Manager still REFUSES to work!! Damn frustrating!!

The w890i looks nicer than the w880i tho having said that, I found the new slicker look phone, bit slippery to hold. The black rubber-like backing on the w880i really made holding such a thin phone all that much easier. The fact that the it also extended half way up the side of the phone made it look thinner as well.
I found that although the buttons on the w890i are bigger, they lack the tactile feel of the w880i's buttons which you could feel 'click' when depressed.
The screen on the w890i, although only slightly bigger than the w880i makes a noticeable improvement to the visuals.
I compared the speakers on both phones and found that the w890i had a slightly lower quality speaker. The w880i's speaker by no means produces fantastic sound but had slightly better clarity than my w890i unit. This may of course be an anomaly, but after a couple of "cracked?". Started crackling really badly at anything above 4 bars of volume. Mind you, the phone volume was never set at anything above 6 bars.
The browser, although an improvement on the w880i, still could be better. Loading pages from Gumtree, I found that it didn't like big pages (tho gumtree is a basically designed website by today's standards). It often froze or failed to load completely which I could sometimes fix by clearing the cache & refreshing the screen, and if not, restarting the phone.
The media player which displays pics, vids, music (integrates with the walkman player)has a nice feel (mimicking the Sony PSP) & can be used in landscape mode which is nice tho I found it a bit quirky. It displays the photos in a visually pleasing manner and you can do a slideshow of the pics and set 'mood' music to it which was impressive. Not all photos were accessible via this view tho. It only seems to pick up photos you've viewed via the file manager and if you've sorted your photos into different folders, it doesn't recognise this and just pulls everything you've viewed via file manager. It does appear however, to group the pictures by month. So if you like to group your family, work and holiday photos separately and you happen to have taken photos of all 3 categories within the same month, then the photoviewer will show all of them in the one session.
Once again this may be an anomaly that has only plagued my phone but the search function whilst browsing my music files on my 8GB M2 card started playing up after about 3wks. Like the phonebook, searching is a matter of typing the relevant file name you wish to search for, but for eg, typing T would bring me to the first file starting with G and M would take me to the 1st file starting with G. This seems problem seems to only affect the file manager and not the phone book. Seems to be some sort of corruption and a master reset of the settings didn't seem to fix it. I didn't want to lose the games on my phone so didn't want to risk a master reset.
The inclusion of the radio is fantastic although reception is a little weaker than on my old W800i.
Also new on the W890i is location services which consists of 2 main features. Status info and Google Maps - designed to work with the HGE-100. Status info has 2 tabbed screens, 1 shows the satellite locks and the other graphs the speed you've traveled over the last hr. Both work well.
Apart from that, everything else appears pretty much the same as its older brother the w880i. Hope this has been useful.

Anonymous, 13 Jul 2008RE: 8GB comment reply Most songs I rip @320k but rarely ... moreI thought the playlist thing only applies to files without ID3 format tags. I use a W610i and i have to make playlist of all my albums for it to play them in correct track order but thats only when its a wma (which i prefer coz apparently a 64kbps wma has same quality as a 128kbps MP3, thus twice as many songs). When I do use 128kbps MP3 they come in correct order.

Zorro, 12 Jul 2008About the 8GB comments:
if you copy about 200 songs in 30 ... moreRE: 8GB comment reply
Most songs I rip @320k but rarely @128k (What's the point?)
Updated 500 files t 8GB Sandisk card and it took ~45-60 minutes which is VERY SLOW!!!
The phone took ~3-4 minutes to find and update the files via the media player, which played the files fine.
The controls are still too small and clumsy to use especially the reverse/fast forward keys!!
My original comment has to do with the fact that:
1. The SE media manager software STINKS as noted in various online forums and SE users!
2. It's better to drag and drop the files onto the media card than use the SE software!
3. Problem: SE phone MUST have playlists to pplay the files properly.
- Yes, you can dump all the files into one folder and play them but it's VERY difficult to create different folders then play those files without a playlist! SE's media player MUST use playlists in those folders!
- Found this out on many other online forums ssomewhere. I thought the other SE users were kidding but they were NOT!

if you copy about 200 songs in 30 mintes it sounds good enough (about 4.4Mbps for avarage 5MB songs). anyway i assume that if you will use the phone as mass storage it will transfer even faster.
does a lower capacity card work faster for you?
Do you see symptoms with other action like browsing the file-system of listening to music (the transfer performance is much less important for me)?

Found out that the W890i can also use the BST-40 (Capacity : 1120 mAH), not just the BST-33 (Capacity : 950 mAH), battery normally used in my P1i!
[The P1i can also use the BST-33 battery but shouldn't since it'll decrease the talktime available as SE states that the P1i should use the BST-40 battery].
It does create a "Very slight" bulge near the MicroSD slot side area which is "barelly noticable", but, otherwise, it fits fine!
This should provide much more juice and talktime to the phone!
Has anyone else tried this to see if the increase battery capacity works well with the phone?

Zorro, 10 Jul 2008i want to buy the SanDisk M2 8GB card.
i heard some indica... moreThe phone will accept the Sandisk 8GB MicroSD card, which is currently the largest capacity card available. The price is dropping slowly and can be more affordable if bought online or at online auctions.
Caveat...
It IS slow in transfers! Copied almost 200 songs and it took ~30 minutes or so!
iTunes does a better job in transferring songs to the iPod than SE's Media software or via the drag n drop method in transferring songs to the media card!!
