i take it that the QVGA video recorder on this is better than CIF on the Nokias? if so excellent i might plan on buying this for the camera and video recorder as well as the music features. cool to see that this has a HTML browser too.

    ken2.5:
yes, another benefit from WLAN! :)

    gaurav:
    more info about Wireless LAN:

    Versions of WLAN:
802.11b: the most common type of WLAN today, operating in the 2.4GHz band. top transfer speed is 11 Mbps.

802.11g: also operates at 2.4GHz, but transports data over improved and faster protocols. top transfer speed is 54 Mbps.

802.11a: operates at 5GHz. uses the same protocols as 802.11g. top transfer speed is 54 Mbps.

gaurav- WLAN stands for Wireless Local area Netork. this means that you can share information between phones that have this function. the transfer speeds are faster(depending on the electronic appliance that you are usin) at :
      2Mbps @2.4GHz(using FHSS or DSSS)
      54Mbps@5GHz (using OFDM)
and 11Mbps@ 2.4 GHZ (using only DSSS)

note:these figures arenot representative of the phones direct speed. this figures werefound at www. webopaedia.com, and rather refer to the speeds between base sites and WLAN compliant devices
which is 6 times faster than Bluetooth.

        gaurav:
a wireless LAN or WLAN is a wireless local area network that uses radio waves as its carrier: the last link with the users is wireless, to give a network/internet connection to all users in the surrounding area. areas may range from a single room to an entire campus. the backbone network usually uses cables, with one or more wireless access points connecting the wireless users to the wired network.

        you can use it by:
for example ur on a hot spot like a cyber mall, coffee shops, etc (with WLAN) you can simply use ur device such as N80 to connect to their network (which has an internet connection) and surf the net (usually) free of charge in ur N80 (as i may say) :)

if your phone does not support WLAN like W900i, (i'll make a situation) for example you and your friend are having a coffee (at starbucks, usually they have WLAN) you have W900 and ur friend got N80, your friend can surf the net for free using the coffee shop's WLAN (usually free) as long as both of you are in the vicinity while you having W900, couldn't help but stare at your friend surf the net all he wants, unless you're going to use your own network to connect via GPRS to surf the net, which will cost you some money!

          blank:
W900 does NOT support .wmv & .wma file formats. here are the file formats W900 supports:

          Audio:
          AAC, AAC+, MP3 (192 kbit/s for local playback), MP4, M4A, 3GP, AMR, WAV/WAVE, G-MIDI (level 1 with 40 voices polyphony), Real 8, I-melody, E-melody, AMR-NB, RHZ & XMF
(but on page 17 of the white paper, it has 72 polyphonic voices)

          Video (including audio part):
-MP4 (video: MPEG4, audio: AAC or AMR)
          -3GP (video: MPEG4 or H.263,audio:AAC or AMR)
          -Real 8

all of the specs are from the white paper (page 30) of W900 (R1A) Oct 21, 2005 Edition. if you're sceptical about what i just posted in here, you can check out:

          http://developer.sonyericsson.com/site/global/docstools/phonespecs/p_phonespecs.jsp

and download W900i's white paper, and see for yourself. hope i helped.. :)

AHM- what i think they are trying to say is that this phone is so good that there is no real competition for it (at nokia) besides maybe the smartphones

blank-this phone supports all of that and AAC, AAC+, and mpeg4

                Junior_troy- yes

Wolverine if you really want to sacrifice form over function, then be our guests

TheOneDazz- of course. if you remember it had its press release there so it will be one of the first countries to receive it.

If you really want 2 know what people think of this phone just check the ratings. Nokia 6280 isnt a symbian phobe but its got a much higher rating. Im neutral: not nokia, not SE, but i thing my money is with the nokia. Its smaller & lighter. The choice is yours.

All of you guys, Stop comparing the Nokia phones which runs symbian OS with this phone.
This is not a smartphone. We have talked about that a hundred times.
