thanks so much for the detailed info on the reception. funny as im currently trying to decide between a k750 and the w960... seeing if the extra 100-150 dollar value for the W is worth it.

The person below summed it up pretty good. I would say that this phone isn't really built for gsm networks in US, since they use 850MHz, which this phone doesn't have, but it does have 1900MHz which is another frequency which is used in US. I use a local mobile company that actually is a T-Mobile affiliate, and don't really have problems. My previous phone was a k750, which is also a triband phone, and didn't have any problems with that phone eather. That's why I knew having triband in this phone wouldn't be a problem. Also I did a few tests between this phone and k750, and although k750 showed more bars, I found out that this phone has better reception, calls are more louder, clearer, and I can hear the person on the other end much better and clearer. Also in places where I had no signal with k750, I had two bars with this phone, and even with two bars, the calls were way clear. So even though my k750 showed better signal in most places, 5 bars most of the time, this phone actually had better reception with 4 bars, which is what I get most of the time with this phone.

            Wario,

W960 is a triband phone. In some areas, particularly rural areas, T-mobile service needs the phone to have the 850MHz band which is only available on a quad band phone. If your friends' phones are quad band, that should explain why theeir phones get better reception.

                            thanks a lot next_level!
however, my phone can't connect to the pc using the 'normal transfer mode' only the 'fast transfer mode'.
so only the orange boxes show up and i can't access the green ones like phone back up.
i was planning to update the phone but was told to back up...but i can't.
                            any ideas?

Took the w960i with me on a trip to the mountain resort of June Lake (near Mammoth Lakes) CA, USA

2 of my friends who are also on T-Mobile USA had at least 3 bars on their service signal (One was a Blackberry and the other a Samsung). Another friend also on T-Mobile USA was using an old RAZR and she had 2 bars at the most, but sometime she'd lose service signal completely and will pick up a roaming signal instead.

My w960i on T-Mobile USA had "NO SIGNAL" whatsoever. Sometimes the status screen would read "SEARCHING" indefinitely.

This is VERY DISAPPOINTING, especially considering a mobile phone's main function is to make and receive phone calls! And also because my 3 friends with inferior and less expensive phones all had some sort of service just inches away from me at that location! The difference was between no signal, and 3 bars, that is A LOT!

I am on the new firmware too by the way.

Just something people should consider if they're going to use this on T-Mobile USA and will be in a rural area.

                                      To Next_Level,

Don't know, but I am sure that I did at once use the flash light when recording video. Don't know, maybe It was a bug and I stubled on it. I am 100% sure that I did have the flash light on while I was recording video, but that was some time ago, right after I got the phone, so don't remember what I did. O well it's not a big deal, but it's one of those features that should be there.
