mb, 01 Jun 2011thanks. another small help please - can you set individual ... moreYou're welcome... I am from India. While trying to set custom ringtone for a contact, you were able to reach the default ringtone list right... Move down on that list and your downloaded ringtones might appear on the bottom of the list. If not there, you have the Music Library option at the extreme bottom. Open Music Library and set the desired ringtone. If your downloaded ringtone does not appear even there, do as follows(This is what I am doing, that is why I am asking you to do it this way coz I am sure this works.)

Create a folder named Audios in your sd card.
Then create two folders inside Audios named Songs and Ringtones.
Put all your songs in the Songs folder and the downloaded ringtones in the Ringtones folder.

Now try to edit the contact and the ringtone should be at the bottom of the list. If not, restart the phone and then it should be there.

I am also new to Android. Just bought this phone last month. So, there might be other guys out there who know better than me...

                          techradar's review abt xperia arc:

When we talk about a Phoenix Phone, it will forever be the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. A company that was making phones like the Xperia X10 on outdated software less than a year ago has brought out one of the world's thinnest and most attractive handsets, and it deserves its place in the top three.

And it's earned that rank through sheer quality - the things we're impressed with on the Xperia Arc are almost too many to list.

From the beautiful Reality Display with Bravia Engine to the powerful-yet-simple 8.1MP camera with Exmor technology, this is one of the phones that people actually want to hold and play with when you show it off.

The new Sony Ericsson overlay has cool features like an 'exploded widgets' view, and the integration of YouTube searching for videos of songs currently playing is super cool too.

OK, it's not dual-core powered, but until we start seeing some applications that really start to challenge these smartphones, we're happy to recommend a phone that is slick under the finger, slim in the pocket, satisfying in the hand and kinder than many on the wallet to boot.

                          Quick verdict

The hardware is extremely impressive, both in terms of looks and performance. Forget the fashionable dual-core phones – when done right, a single-core 1GHz processor can do it all.

As it is, we're prepared to overlook the Xperia Arc's minor flaws thanks to its stunning good looks, superb screen and very decent photo performance. You can't help but love it once you've held its magically thin body and gazed adoringly into its dazzling Reality Display.

Ajmal Basheer, 31 May 2011Hi Dual Core, First of all, I shall answer your final q... morehei ajmal i just got impressed on your comment, now a day people dont need quality but they need full features.samsung include almost all specs in their cellphones, they only hav quantity but no quality at all.i noticed the presence of saturated colours in samsung amoled, most of my friends are looking for saturated colours, loud and nonclear voice, but they dont even use any other features of the phone.in some days they realise that sonyericsson shows the real colours,i just show them the comparison of picture quality in both sony and samsung, now most of my friends are in my side, they said that sonyericsson is awesome and display has reality on it.am using vivaz pro now,its awesome,bt it has avg. Battery and low volume.but its camera is fantastic, video recording is top quality, fast web browsing, and quite brilliant display,my friend is using arc and it is very nice and powerful fone.now there are lot of sony fans in my college, using x10,x10 mini pro,arc,x8, and even old and powerfull w995 and k810;oh my god sony just rocksss, they are of good quality, durability, and at last they shows reality and they are the reality,....

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc - The Ultimate Multimedia Device.

1// First thing to mention, is the fantastic design, it's simply the most eye catching design we've ever seen from Sony Ericsson, the Arc shape makes it absolutely comfortable to hold in both landscape and portrait modes, and with extraordinary light weight at 117g and the premium build quality, we just can't expect a better body for a device with 4.2 inch screen!

2// On the body you can see the power button and micro HDMI out port at the top, first mic and the lanyard loop at the bottom, standard audio jack at the left, notification LED light (unique feature), micro USB port, volume rockers and the dedicated camera key (rare feature between Android based handsets) at the right, 8mp camera lens, LED flash, second mic (for noise cancelation and stereo recording) and the loud speaker at the rear, and at the front you notice the ear piece, proximity sensor and three hardware keys: menu, home and back buttons. And of course, I didn't mention the screen because you can barely see the edge between the screen and the black border surrounding it when the screen is off! And this beauty might be available in three colors!! Surprised, huh?! There are two official colors, Misty silver and Midnight blue, but a pink version has appeared on web too (for Ntt DOCOMO in Japan) .

3// In term of hardware, Arc has everything to run the Android 2.3 gingerbread fast and smooth, 1GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM8255, 512MB of RAM and 320MB of internal storage. And no need to be worry about the internal storage since you can install everything on your memory card with gingerbread.

4// This device has the most customized and customizable UI. Plus with Timescape and Mediapane. The Xperia UI is so beautiful and gives you full control to change things as you see fit. For example you can sort your main menu desirably and you can make folders easily by dropping an icon on the other one. And you can’t miss the cool overview mode that shows all your widgets in one screen, all you have to do is pinch and you can see all your widget large enough instead of seeing all home screens with tiny widgets.

Now let’s get to business and see why they call it "The Ultimate Multimedia Device"

The Camera, Screen (image output) and loud speaker (audio output) are the most involved parts regarding to multimedia matters, so let’s take a look at them:

5// Camera: Arc has an 8mp auto focus camera which features Touch focus, image stabilization, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, with LED flash and capable of recording videos at 720P HD 30fps, But that doesn't end here, Because you have the award winning Exmore R mobile sensor which has twice sensitivity compared to normal sensors and it means that you'll get much better images in low light conditions! You think that’s all?! No, you're wrong! Because above all other camera phones, we get an extraordinary feature for video recording and it's the "Continuous auto focus feature", that means you don't need to be worry about the lens distance from anything while you're taking videos! Isn’t it cool? Yeah I know :-P

6// Screen: This device has an LED-backlit LCD, 4.2 inch at 480×854 capacitive multitouch screen, which is scratch-resistant too, capable of showing 16m colors and recognizing up to 32 points at once, now you might ask what's the point of recognizing 32 points at once?! I’d say that this just shows how powerful and responsive the screen is really! And let me tell you that this isn't JUST another LCD! They have put the amazing "Mobile Bravia Engine" on this device. And it means that you have brighter, sharper and super natural colored images! And again, that's not all! They’ve done something else with screen so it has much less reflection, so thumbs up for the brilliant sunlight visibility of the screen!

7// HDMI output: well, beside the very nice screen you get full HDMI out too! so you can see not only your gallery on your HD TV, but in fact you'll be able to see the entire UI on it, so just plug it to your HD TV and start playing angry bird! Everyone will be surprised :-)

8// Audio output: Thanks god! unlike their other recent phones, this one has an excellent loud speaker, very loud and high quality...plus the 3.5mm headphone jack that it'll give you great audio quality for sure, since you have nice equalizers too. So don't worry about the sound at all.

In the end, believe me or not, this is an absolutely unique smart phone. Some people call it The Android Smartphone with luxurious advantages! Suit yourself and call it whatever you like but … wait! No need to look for power button, Press the home key, swipe to unlock ... now enjoy this beauty! … And hey! Get the hold of yourself! It’s just a phone ;-)
