reeta, 12 Dec 2012then how to update to ics mr.aadrian? pls reply meAs I've not updated the phone to ICS, I'm not sure which steps you all must take. First you need to be sure you want the update. The phone can be slower due to higher hardware requirements with ICS. Secondly, you need to install the Sony PC companion from the Sony website. After that, you need to open the Sony PC companion and connect the phone with the pc or laptop. Then I suggest just to follow the exact steps given by the Sony PC companion.

In all my previous posts I recomened NOT to upgrade to ICS...but, now I upgraded it just to see how it works first hand... Now I recommend to try and upgrade to ICS but there is one trick! You must upgrade in one way and optimaze with root etc. So this is my review of ICS 4.0.4 *.587
Works OK, no lag at all, works better than gingerbread, it is more beautifoul, more options (reject call with sms, freeze apps, etc)...I dont see any disandvantages - maybe that 3G internet uses more battery...but thats maybe subjective opinion. My conclusion about battery consumption is that ICS uses maybe more battery...but standby is same or even better. Talking, surfing with 3G uses battery...100-80% (20% battery drain) means 1 hour surfing with 3G and 10-20 min talking...On gingeread I would do that with 15% battery drain maybe...But it is worth because there is now easy root method, Camera driver, kernel, roms where you can benefit more than with gingerbread. But I will limit this review on stock versions with small modifications. Stock ICS can be rooted (fool-proof)! Very easy, do not be afraid - its realy click here - click there and done!
Easy method od XDA and sony mobile talk forum.
Why root - to delete bloatware, you can free up to 120MB on system (60mb alredy was free)- and then with titanium backup transfer apps to system (launcher, office, widgetlocker...). With deleted bloatware phone is faster, more stabile, more free RAM and space for you apps(320+130=450MB)
It didnt restart on me (gingerbread did that few times), no lag. In few firs days it happened that opera mini or tapatalk was closed. low ram or something...but no more. If it is more often there is option in settings to setup managing ram and apps (how many to keep in RAM...)

How to upgrade ICS: use SUS - this is must. First factory reset on gingergread, then use SUS to update to ICS (option with factory reset). After update, do one more factory reset. That way you delete everything from scratch and do new install - no update...Update with PC companion does update and mix stuff up...so you get lag etc.

So my final conclusion is: try yourself ICS (update+factory with SUS). Than root to delete bloatware and do mods you want (turn on light sensor, camera drivers, maybe kernel you want...)
For notification led fix - use smsAwake app (it just turns on screen for 5 sec, and led works then).
For launcher i use LauncherPro - great and light.

ICS 4.0.4 works ok on ray. It is modern, better. It is refreshing for my Ray. If you find ICS bad for your device, then use flashtool to update to gingerbread .42 and root it. Than update to .62 gingerbread thru phone update, over the air (OTA). -or just give it to your Sony service centar to do it for you. (no root then).

For now I will leave ICS on Ray - works ok. Same as gingerbread or even better (modern).

But after the update, pic size gets larger to around 2.5 MB. So if u click more pics, in that sense, u'll need a larger capacity SD card. I've heard after updating to ics, there is a display issue xperincing lots of people, thats include me. And 2.3 works flawlessly, but there is a lag issue in ics. Think before u update.
