      you wrote :

the Red Green and Blue values of the color can go from 0 to 255) that is said to be the maximum that the human eye can discern

      this is wrong

      This is totally wrong!!!!!

      0-255 means 256 combination

each color is represented by 8 bit which has 256 combination for single colors, it does not have anything do with the HUMAN EYE LIMIT!!!

so all together 3 RGB channels 256*256*256 = 16777216 colors can be made by a pixel (16 Million)

please read it on Wikipedia or any other article

      sorry

      I made a mistake

      1-bit color (2 colors)
      2-bit color (4 colors)
      4-bit color (16 colors)
      8-bit color (256 colors)
      16-bit color (65535 colors)
      24-bit color (16.7 Million colors)

32bit color (4.2 Billion colors expected)

human can seeh anywhere close to the 18.4 quintillion colors (the latest I found)

Most "32-bit" displays do not display 4.2 billion colors, like you would expect. Instead, they display 24-bit color and use the remaining 8 bits to signal alpha transparency or Z-buffer data. Most 64-bit computers still use 24-bit or 32-bit color. Since the human eye cannot distinguish anywhere close to the 18.4 quintillion colors a 64-bit display would provide, a 64-bit display is unlikely to ever be used

anyway there is a huge difference between 65K and 16M colors

Just switch it in your PC and see a good image taken with 16M, when you watch videos it is clearly seen.

Same is on Mobile phone, but the probelm is you cannot switch color depth and see,

SO best way is to switch the phone and see

Since I have a x10 mini and a droid I can clearly see the differance!! x10 mini display is a little brighter
but it is poor in color separations.

I bought is as the it looks great, handy in hand. but not happy with the colors, waiting for an update.so it would fix.

a 65K display can show only 65K different colors

I wonder what is your point, what does 65K colors have do with sunlight, under any condition 16M is better.

anyway no need to carry this any more!! just one month to go, you'll get 16M. Hope u wont deny that? would you?

      So all will be happy!!!!!

Why they want to bash this phone?? If somebody think that this phone is not good, then they why posts a lot of comments here?? Very strange lol! I kept the X10 in my hands, and it is awesome. It is responsive, I like the Mediascape app a lot. :) You bought already the phone?

Droid x, 31 Jul 2010That good example. From your monitor set from 16 bit to 32b... more16M is not 32 bit lol :)

Now seriously 65K colors means that the color of each pixel on your screen is defined by 16 bits, or 65535 different levels of colors (2^16=65535) or a 16bit color depth. 16M colors means your pixels have a 24 bit color depth (2^24=16777216, or each of the Red Green and Blue values of the color can go from 0 to 255) that is said to be the maximum that the human eye can discern.

So in conclusion, to me, the difference is more theoretical than practical, and I agree that having 65k colors on a mobile device is enough, especially because the usage conditions are different from a PC (i.e. direct sunlight and generally speaking on the go) especially when performances are important over eye candy.

hope that clears your mind...so the diff is between 16 bit and 24 bit which is really not much... :)

I googled it, but I didn't find anything good. Let's forget it, I don't really care if my phone has 65K colors, or more. If a phone ahs a BIG screen, than it needs more than 65K of colors. By the way I kept the X10 in my hands, and in my opinion is cool. I said that site could be fake, because it is a Nokia site, and they have many 16 Million colors screen phones.I don't have problems with Nokia or with Motorola, don't get me wrong. 4 me the X10 is a good phone, but it lacks a sound recorder. I want a phone with sound recorder, but you can download a sound recorder. It lacks MT too, but that is NOT the most important(at least 4 me). :) Example the Samsung Galaxy S lacks a LED flash. Maybe the phone is awesome, has a lot of features, but if lacks an LED flash, I don't need a phone. What I want to say is, there is NO perfect phone, and don't need to find what phone lacks something.
