hey guys now i have an issue, not with X10 but in general with smartphones

My operator Vodafone sends advertisement timely to my phone(not via SMS) and their customer care is unaware, so the issue is when I call someone outside my city ...i get my advertisement at the same time on my phone in a pop up window..so while im talking to someone over the phone...my cheek touches that advertisement box and clicks ok which in turn puts my call on hold..also takes me to homescreen at the same time as it disables my proximity sensor.(thus my cheeks can go on touch any menu/shortcut)....its highly irritating ...
how does one disable this ad ? or anyone else having the same problem?

this thing happens with all my smartphones...but the issue here is X10 is touchphone :(

another alternative to handwriting i think which should work for u is SlideIT or swipe application. You slide your fingers over the letters and it works out which word you want to type.google gesture is not that accurate

aryan , 09 Jun 2010it seems we both have something in common ... i too have up... moreTo be honest X10 is soooo cooool, heads turn wherever i go and it has a wow factor on most people who see me using the phone. However, i had become so used to the P1i and all that it lacked was a big screen. Text input is still a nightmare for me on X10

[deleted post]Not sure about your first question, but for tethering(connecting to internet with phone as a modem) there is an app available called easy tether. you also have to install a windows version of the program. then you can use the x10 as a modem. I used it a couple of weeks back when i was travelling and it worked great.

Can you explain further how you use your wi-fi to make the internet connection, i'm still lights out on the Wi-fi thing. My laptop and printer has wi-fi and i use that to print but beyond that i do not understand much about Wi-fi

Guys the SonyEricsson guys did plan and model their OS on the latest OS that was available at the time. If the OS is changed in that short space of time what do you expect them to do. Assuming they had to change their plans to accommodate the Eclair maybe we would still be waiting for the phone to be released. Just see my first paragraph to understand why this phone was released with Donut. Just have patience.

[deleted post]Handwriting recognition - Thats coz this phone has capacitive touch i believe, so no capacitive touch screen would allow that...that feature is only on resistive touch screen.

u can use software like tethering ...try looking up on android market...i saw one but dont remember...will let u know if i find any next time..i just connect my cellphone to wifi...along with my lappy and that makes the two devices on LAN :)

bluetooth is discoverable for 2 min to save battery...although ur bluetooth will be on but it wont scan other devices after 2 min's thats what it means...which poses no issue honestly...thats the standard with any phone now days.. :)

                        Im quoting you here..
"terrible battery life, terrible sound/volume, lacking good support and updates etc etc. Not to mention all the constant SE lies !!"

1)terrible battery life - Not true..(its just for the first week)

                        2)terrible sound/volume - agreed

3)lacking good support and updates - SE is new to Android, give them some time. with their other products they do give timely updates..and they are customizing the OS which does take time ...n its not simple stock android OS running on other cellphones..

4)Not to mention all the constant SE lies - can u explain that...i mean it on serious note coz i wish to know im unaware of it..coz if that is true i would not consider buying SE next time honestly...coz apple is also a constant liar...so please let me know... :)

There are two things that i greatly miss on this phone that i used to enjoy on my P1i. I don't know if there is anyone out there who can help.
                          1. Handwriting recognition ( i do have swype but it's nowhere near the P1i experience)
                          2. Connecting my laptop to the internet via bluetooth using my phone as modem. At times i run out of data bundles and just want to connect quickly my laptop on to the internet thru my phone.

is there a special reason why the phone is only discoverable for 2 minutes only, or there is something i am missing

Dennis, 09 Jun 2010Just correcting some bad spelling errors........ Its good ... moreNokia,Motorola,Sony Ericsson,Apple,China they all get their majority of phones manufactured in China...Chinese parts are the cheapest...its just that the grey market for Nokia makes the part cheaper else if u buy an original part for Nokia or SE..they are all expensive ...and Chinese Products are not bad in Quality...don't just rate coz of the made in China tag..Chinese Quality is one of the best(they have better quality standards than US)...all your major electronics are made in China or India..

To all those that have problems with the battery please have a bit of patience. You will notice that soon after buying your phone you will use it quite a lot checking out features, more than the average usage. This uses up a lot of energy and the battery drains so fast. i did notice that the battery improves its capacity with time. It has been a month since i bought mine and i now get 2 days from the battery with everything on (e.g GPS, 3G) all the time with mobile updates (emails, etc) after every hour. I honestly believe that 2 days is acceptable and average for such a phone. FYI i used to get about 2-3 days on my P1i with a single charge
