yes you can use Skype by simply downloading it from the android market.
yes and no for installing apps to external memory. Yes if you root the phone and no if you did not root it. Most of my apps are installed on SD after I rooted and installed custom ROM

after rooting this device, you gonna love it, it will not be "xperia in the middle,," ^^ as it can do the newer xperia line up do,,

hey dont buy a samsung its a simple phone but xperia is a full of entertainment

Hi there. I agree that some of the finer points of XPERIA X8 should've been revised and improved,but from my personal experience I can't say,that is a bad phone.
On the contrary,the phone's design is quite impressive. The lack of a newer version of Android OS (such as Gingerbread in its decendent XPERIA MINI),is almost neglegibile. However, I agree that the processor,which is Qualcomm Adreno 600 MHz, could've been a lot faster. Maybe even up to 1 GHz. But this is something that I can overlook.
The bigger problem presents the physical RAM ammount of approxmailly 200 MB.
This is quite enough for some smaller programs like maybe Quickoffice,Adobe Reader and so on. But the fact remains that for better games you need bigger memory space and quite frankly this might be somewhat dissapointing for some users.
I'm not trying to put blame here on anyone. This is my honest opinion about this particular device.
For those users who say that X8 can't be upgraded further than Android 2.1,I can say that they're mistaken. An upgrade to Gingerbread is possible, even for non-rooted phones. However you have to back-up your files in order to initiate the upgrade process.

x8 mores better than me... cause i thnk samsung's galaxy y is qiute hard in touch inputs... and lacks acccelorometer

the battery life of this fone is soo poor. it can only stand for 5 hours when you're using it

M I D O, 09 Dec 2011Hello EveryBody. am comparing Between this phone and Samsum... moreX8 is far better the only the galaxy y advantage was a little bit faster cpu and ram but interms of screen x8 has the advantage as it is 16million colors versus the low resolution galaxy y screen 256k only and the x8 has better graphic chip, by the way we tend to compare both phones in performance and speed and the result X8 is much better a bit, even with the 600mhz cpu vs the 800mhz of galaxy y they both seems processes the same in short same speed don't know if others still confirms this but the galaxy y was not as good, X8 was much better you can even with just 2.1 version its a very good phone, get it you will not regret it

Nice phone!! i have it over a year now and still working excellent, as i rooted it and use almost every roms available out there, and still my device was going strong, not a hint of lag what so ever,and after rooting it can tie up with newer version of Xperia and not so far with 1ghz Xperia Active, as matter of fact im using this more than my X10 and arc, i just bring them up when it comes to pictures, but in every day use, i use my Super X8 a lot, very good and stable not to mention sturdy phone,,

The phone have class in comparison of other phone which near about 10000 its price in bhopal 9200 rs but battry backup iss not upto the mark on an on good phone to buy
