To RhythmicDias:
Yup, Z550i has true UMS capability. Under the USB settings, you can choose for the phone to act as a mass storage device or modem. When you connect the phone to the PC via the USB cable (not provided and sold seperately), the external memory will mount itself as a drive and you can just transfer any files between the phone and your computer.
However, you will need to copy the files to the correct media folders or your phone will not be able to use the files. To access internal memory, you will need to download the SE management program from their website.
Also for the media player, do note that while it has a few equalizer settings, there are no user-customizable ones.
Hope this helps.... :-)

as far as i know this phone's memory and the memory card ( if u choose to buy it ) can be used as mass storage ( just as a pen drive )
. Darkray will throw some light on it in a while :-)
and r u sure that the phone has manual tuning for the mp3 thing coz if it does im gonna buy it for sure . Also i would like to use my own headphones with this phone , is this possible by connecting it to some usb or extra jack or somethin
@ darkray
me too was planning to go for a mp3 player and some nokia phone but after lookin at the specs of z550i i thaught y not give it a try
( hope im makin da right decision )

The maximum memory expansion for this phone is 1GB.
To DarkRay:
I'm planning to buy this phone and I went to shop today, but unfortunately 2 shops I went had not stock. They offered me the opened piece which I refused. This phone is really sexy. I just love it.
I just have read that this phone supports "USB mass storage." What does this mean? Does this mean I can use this phone to transfer any kind of files just as a pen drive or does it have any limitations. Have you tried transferring any .zip .doc, or .exe files. Please let me know at the earliest as I'm planning to buy it on Monday, September 4, 2006. Thanks in advance.
To all other guys who look for music feature (and who have not yet bought this phone), this phone has "manual equilizer" for mp3 songs playback, great feature that I always wanted.

I really like this phone, I like it's simple design. This is my first time owning a SE Phone and so far I am very satisfied with it. My only question is what is the maximum memmory expansion for this phone?

To neos:
For me, the battery life is about average. Under my average daily usage of making about 10 minutes call, 20+ SMS and playing 15 minutes of game (usually while waiting for something), taking 2 photos, and transferring files via bluetooth for 5 minutes, I get about 2 days.
At the end of the second day, I get about 40% battery life left but I will recharge it as I am using my phone for business as well and I may just require the extra battery power, just in case.
Some days, I don't play game and have less calls and the phone will easily last for 3 days, with about 25% battery power left at the end of the 3rd day.
However, I do not use the phone for music or radio and so, if that is your intended usage, I am not sure how this will affect the battery life. Reason for not my not using it as an MP3 player is because I have a much better MP3 player (Samsung YP-T8).
I also need to clarify that I usually leave the bluetooth off.
Hope this helps.... :-)

Another day has passed since I have been using Z550i and I can confirm that the battery life aint great at all. I am quite pleased with the overall package the phone offers but still the battery back up aint good considering the features its got to offer.

I don't know why people think the battery life is pathetic. Ofcourse if you call/sms a lot, listen to mp3 the whole day, play games, have bluetooth on, the battery will run out quickly. But thats with every modern day phone. I had a Samsung D600 and battery life was worse than this. If you want great battery life go buy yourself an old nokia 8850 or so.

For Sony Erricson, could you please produce a great battery for Z550i? It's not enough for supporting the features in this phone. Battery life is not good enough for travellers.

The battery life is very bad. It could't stand even a day, with those lots features.
The speaker's not loud enough in the traffic.

Battery life is just great,
one of the best in market. The phone is just good enough to keep you playing all day with him, in that case you must recharge it every night, with normal use phone hold for abouth 3-4 days or more

Yes pathetic battery life, I used it heavily in terms of talking, messaging, radio & Mp3's and must say i was dissapointed with the way the battery life has come down.
The Radio is kewl and the sound quality is excellent when used with a good pair of headphones. The games of Blackdeal, Puzzleslider and Quadrapop could have been better.
The Mem Card is costly but adds the zing to the phone.
But still I believe that the phone is for the true lovers of Sony Ericsson. I believe that it could have been more easy to use. I wouldn't say that it is a must buy :)

I brought Sony Ericsson Z550i Yesterday, and must say its got load of cool features including funky camera and kewl and clear display.
The big turn offs are pathetic battery life and difficulty in opening with one hand.
Its definetly not a must buy.

The 6131 batterylife sucks due to the 2 color screens, also the inner screen doesn't have protective glass (it's like a TFT monitor of a computer, try pressing it with your finger) The auto-open mechanism also gives it more chance to get broken. The only thing I liked about the 6131 is the quality of the screens but it costs battery.
Today i finally got my 512 memory card, 27 euros :P

The playback quality through the speaker is very clear but it lacks bass and it's not very loud. Playback quality through the orignal headset is very good, I'm now using my Senheisser headphones and it's even better.
Camera quality is good with enough lighting but when it's dark their is alot of noise in the picture.
Screen size is 176 x 220 pixels, 30 x 37 mm
There are no changeable covers and the screen picture is very vivid and bright
