              Rhythmicdia is right
              http://www.thetravelinsider.info/roadwarriorcontent/quadbandphones.htm
Scroll down and you'll see that Australia uses dual band network (900/1800)
Since the Z550i is triple band it will work just fine for you :)

why should not it work. Well, correct me if I'm wrong. If your provider network supports GSM frequencies this phone supports, then you should be able to use it. Better call up your provider and confirm the frequencies. This phone supports 3 bands. This is just my guess, so guys pls correct me if i'm wrong.

Can you use a USB stick in Ubuntu? If so then you can also use the phone

                      to vk

You can use an adapter like this one
                      http://photo.wawagadgetltd.com/product/sony_ericsson/se135ajs.jpg
I bought mine for 8 euros. I'm using it with Senheisser MX300 headphones, sounds great

                      to RhythmicDias
The phone doesn't have megabass, you can however tune the equalizer so that you get a lot of bass. There are a couple of presets for the equaliser and you can also have a manual setting. The manual setting gets saved, only when you switch to a built in preset you lose your own settings.

Heres a picture of my phone

Another thing. DarkRay, you mentioned that the z550 supports UMS. Does that mean I can use the phone from a Linux OS too? I use Ubuntu Linux on my machine.

Hi all. Thanks to DarkRay and others, I've finally decided to get me a z550 :-) Just a few more queries.

What accessories are available "in the box"? Charger, hands-free and USB cable? Also, whats the cost of a 1 GB expansion card? I'm in Mumbai, India.

the site shows in the interative demo that it has megabass but I read somewhere it does not have nor did I check it out when I had been to the shop. I guesss, our big brother, DarkRay, needs to tell us that as he already owns this beauty.

My big thanks to you all who responded quickly with full details.

What I'm still confused is about the EQ I mentioned. I held the phone in my hand and when I accessed the equilizer option, it had a "manual" option on the right lower dislpay, and I clicked it which brought a red square or polygon (indicative of selected item) to the first graphic EQ on the display and moving the navigation key up and down changed the setting for the first EQ (supposedly bass, I think). But to note, during this time, I had not started playing any media file.

@DarkRay, did you mean that even if we can set EQ manually, we cannot save it or the "manual" setting which I saw and described there is just of no effect??

In the SE website, in the z550i page, on the left side it has interative option and in that interative option also I saw manual EQ control, but not sure if we can save them or not.

                                        Thanks again to all
