Sony posts official Xperia 5 promo videos, including hands-on and a Fortnite stream

The Sony Xperia 5 is a rare compact flagship – while the 6.1” screen diagonal sounds large, the 21:9 aspect ratio keeps the phone slender. It’s 2mm narrower than a Galaxy S10e, for example, and 3mm narrower than an iPhone XS, but has more screen surface area than both.

And it has one more camera than either of them – the triple camera setup is lifted directly from the Xperia 1 setup (it’s wide + ultra wide + tele). It includes the exclusive Sony Alpha and Eye AF tech. More Sony trademarks crop up, including the CineAlta-powered Cinema Pro app, which can shoot 4K HDR video at 24fps.

The official hands-on video below offers a 4 minute overview of all the features Sony managed to fit into the petite package of the Xperia 5.

The phone is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 855 chipset and Sony wants you to know it. This time it leaned on its console department and enabled wireless support for the PS4’s DualShock controller.

The video below is a livestream showing Trymacs and Chefstrobel battling it out in Fortnite. This will be enabled on the Xperia 1 via an OTA update, by the way.

Finally, here’s a promo video that breezes past the features of the Sony Xperia 5. It doesn’t linger too long on any single feature and yet the video is 2 minutes long – Sony is really angling for the crown of compact flagship and no feature was left behind.

Our own Xperia 5 hands-on review will be up soon, both in written and video forms, so stay tuned for that.
