Did you catch the news? Sony's US Instagram account posted this the other day:
"We're excited to announce that the Xperia 1 is launching on July 12 at Best Buy, Amazon, B&H Photo, Focus Camera and other participating retail outlets. Xperia 1 is both operable on GSM networks and certified to work on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Xperia 1 will retail for $949.99."

Too late and too expensive IMO.

I've previously owned iPhone and Samsung phones but I have to admit, from the perspective of watching entertainment on the go, Sony Xperia 1's specifications blow other phones out of the water such as Samsung S10, iPhone XS, One Plus 7 Pro etc. I will definitely be upgrading my phone to Sony Xperia 1.
Let's deal with the FACTS.
- Sony Xperia 1: 10-bit display (meaning it can display just over 1 billion colours) and unlock the potential of 100% DCI-P3 + BT2020.
Competition: 8-bit display (meaning it can display just over 16 million colours). Even if the product has HDR 10+ certification, it cannot unlock the rest of the colours due to the 8-bit display limitation.
Sony Xperia 1:
- Has 100% DCI-P3 support along with BT2020 and D65 White Point to reference better/accurate whites.
- Each Sony Xperia 1 has been tuned to the Sony OLED Master Monitor which costs approximately £35,000 - £50,000. In an interview with Naoki Matsubara (Sony Display Engineer), he states that while OLED looks beautiful, from a film perspective, it did not have that 'film' tone before calibration hence why they had opted to calibrate it to the Sony OLED Master Monitor.

Google self cracking Sony screens, overheating, water damage, bad low light photo, low volume, wifi problems, etc, etc, and hundreds or thousands of listings about problems with Z2 and Z3....Sony refused to admit these problems for years, but after pressure from UK and Holland Govts, eventually conceded and even had a hotline in UK.

The point of 21:9 is entirely for VR purposes. I believe it is what movie theaters use. While you're eyeballs should be 18:9, the eyebrow and checkbone restrict visibility, causing 21:9 to take up the maximum field of vision for the average person. The fact that this thing has the new snapdragon 855, is OLED, and it's competition has adopted notches with wider aspect ratios, makes it the best VR phone on the market right now.

Sony know the design. My Z2 still looks nice even after 5 year of usage. It has unique magnetic charging port , dual front speakers added hidden notification light in between the earpiece, and the iconic power button and dedicated hardware camera button. It really stand out from crowd and exceptional, it accompany me create great moments and memories...

Also Acer Iconia Smart and Oukitel U18 have 21:9 screens.
“So what does a 21:9 phone offer over the competition. Practically none. Majority of content available for mobile devices have been formatted specifically for mobile screens, specifically 16:9 ones. Even the new 18:9 fad has not yet changed that status quo. And since the 5.85-inch display really only has a resolution of 1512*720, that means you’re limited to 720p HD content as well.”

AlexP, 15 May 2019It's true 10 bitWrong. Xperia1 is a true 8 bit with added 2 bit temporal dithering.
That is NOT true 10 bit.
"The Xperia 1 has a 10-bit equivalent display (8-bit with 2-bit smoothing) that Sony says can display a myriad of colors without banding. 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing, commonly referred to as 8+2 FRC (Temporal Dithering)."

Anonymous, 15 May 2019There is no pros of 4k in that tiny screen and it hurts bat... moreWhile some parts of it i agree, i do wish they has an option to make it 1080p on default, triggered 4k on media, pretty much like XZ Premium. While u may not notice it on videos, 12mp resolution photos can pixel peep to full extend in 4k.
I myself saw 2k screen phone maximum sharpness level my eyes can see. Even my 65" 4k TV viewed from 2 metres lol. But technologies improvement are always welcome.
Pretty much like 21:9 screen ratio. I love it. Big multitasking view with full cinematic video experience. Even when Sony first introduce 16:9 screen phone people call it ridiculous back in days, then all of them follow afterwards. But it must do in the right ways, make it full bezelless like Oneplus 7 Pro so the height can be controlled, and apply full screen gesture instead of the Pill gesture.
