You like it or not.. Dxo is the standard. Companies who don't follow standard always lose customers.

Its been confirmed as a codec issue, when uploading or convert video on 3rd party apps. (For example using Lightroom first, then upload to youtube). There are various discussion on XDA about it.

RockStar2005, 04 May 2019Wait, WHICH phone scored well on DxO?? lol I don't remember... moreIf i remember correctly, starting Xperia Z1 to Z5 Sony has the top charts in Dxomark. X Performance got no new camera algorithm up until XZ1, same old look image quality.

Samsung S6, S7 & S8 top the charts after Xperia Z5 which is no doubt, its low light & video recording on that time simply the best on its class. Pixel came forward on the top spot after that, which dethrone by both P20 & P20 Pro later on.

We want a phone with direct point and shoot. The end result should be a better photo. That’s it. If Sony Coeria 1 delivers it then fine otherwise again people will reject it. XZ2 premium had all the perks of a good camera but couldn’t stand in the competition for this reason.

Guys, why criticizing so much brands or specialized websites assessing a smartphone feature?

DxO is pretty reliable. I am not a specialist of pics but when I read their tests on the phones I use to own or the one I own now, I see a lot of factual points.

There is no doubt that Huawei and Samsung got the best cameras outta there. That doesn't mean that others are crap, just a level below. Tho, Xiaomi is making a lot of progress and DxO underlines it.

Sony is not that bad in cameras (from some friends feedback and pics I've seen) but still noy at the level of Huawei or Samsung despite great hardware. Their problem is the software and let's see how they improved it with this Xperia 1. If they did, it could surprisingly reach a great score in DxO (and even in basic factual opinions).

DXO caters to 99.9% of users who only want auto functions and point and shoot camera. Nobody is interested in learning all these silly, unnecessary, extra functions. Every other brand realizes this, except Sony.

Nobody is disputing the Sony camera quality, But again, 99.9% of users only want auto functions with point and shoot photos and videos.

Tann Hauser, 04 May 2019And DxO tests phones by protocols exactly favouring those k... moreFrom what you said I conclude we cant expect a new software. It will only bring some stuff like eye af, optical steadyshot and some neat trick in videos.

Some test said with hdr mode it results softer image, so it doesnt help, stop blabbering hdr. And i still dont get why they mention AI, if its really there it should make it easier. Its about how to manage hdr, when hdr should kick in like when it detect backlit, plants or when it should br holded back like in perfect daylight scene. And i think Its better to have a trick with exposure for low light.

Dxo still the best, in this site even nexus 6p better XZ3.
                      https://vcx-forum.org/score

Now its finally a flagship camera set up in x1, we can expect low noises, better bokeh, better stabilisation. but without updated algorithm i guess it will score 95.

Syuser, 04 May 2019I can manage to take with my all middle class Xperias top n... moreYeah, so do I. And I ve given examples here what a difference it makes for Xperia phones when HDR mode is on... Its blatlantly seeable in Xperia 10+ review here, where they made a daylight shot with HDR off, and with HDR on.
But never cared to do that for lowlight shots also, so we got only HDR off lowlight shots.
And guess what the revs comment on that was, "highlights are overblown, dynamic range is low, those are barely usable..."
Well, YAH, turn the darn HDR on for higher dynamic range in lowlight photography samples then, fella.
Every other phone is doing it automatically, Sony isnt, but that doesnt equate to actual lowlight photo quality it can make, doesnt it now?

So, no, its not problem in my basic knowledge, or Xperias camera problem, its actually in "testing protocols".
And DxO ones are the worst, or most basic to say...

And DxO is always a reference for ranters here, unfortunately.

Anonymous, 04 May 2019You have forgotten the basics. This is a Smartphone, not a ... moreAnd DxO tests phones by protocols exactly favouring those kind of phones.
Funnily enough, DxO became popular by testing professional cameras tho, not phone cameras for a common simpletone.
Anyhow, I dont see the complicated professional stress in hoovering your thumb over HDR toggle, or Cinema App icon, to test those, if you can already stress your finger enought over Portrait or Zoom toggle.
Seems DxO staff have serious problem with thumb movement when testing mobile cameras.

So, I must stress out here, Its not me thats lost on basics, but DxO protocols and mobile scoring.
Many people already noticed these flaws, search yt with same inquiry and listen the multiple justified opinions about that.

Sony is the top performance android phone but not the camera, stylish, gaming but sony have a powerful cpu, gpu.sony device need to transform into a people choice device.

Tann Hauser, 04 May 2019Probably. But I am certain Dxo will dimnish that argument i... moreI can manage to take with my all middle class Xperias top notch photos, of course with certain differences and with certain settings or apps. While Dxo is stuck on factory camera sending very subjective interpretations. I am avoiding that booth crap engineers that sell lies over the place! Xperia is special in every using way!

Shui8, 03 May 2019I just found out that weird reddish thing on P30 Pro video ... moreNo.. Its because their new RYYB sensors result very different colour. They needed to change the algorithm to make it as close as their color sience, but still not close enough. Thats why they never talk about daylight photo.

For now for color accuracy p30 pro isnt among the best. if only it is, it will score maybe 116 in Dxo..

99.9% of people want auto features, point and shoot camera with great quality.
If Sony is too stupid to realize this, then Sony deserves low ratings and its sales will suffer. This is one of the most basic business tactics.

Syuser, 03 May 2019Definitely best camera phone for 2019. Weird delays, maybe ... moreProbably. But I am certain Dxo will dimnish that argument in favor of the competition, because as always...
they wont test and score the Xperia video quality by the Cinema App or applied 10 bit HDR, nor photo quality by HDR applied algorithms, cause their flaved protocol tests, you know, just out of the box camera. Even the Eye autofocus needs to be toggled on, so dont expect test points on that either.
And Sony doesnt use HDR algorithms by auto, like all other competitors.
So, you know, if a camera app doesnt apply HDR automatically, as far as DxO is concerned, you re in for a lower "score" automatically.
And those HDR off/on differences are enormeus, as Xperia 10+ samples here have shown.
So get ready for circumstantial DxO scores, without any CineAlta or Alpha camera features included into the score.
And get ready for the usual rants about camera here.
