Shui8, 22 Apr 2019Sharpening on P30 is not over the top, noise free image wit... moreHuawei can't even detect gold colors in the image still photo, what they have is faded yellow color as you can refer to duration 7:11, the signage has golden word but Huawei can't detect it and only show the whitening yellow, I know it has RYYB sensor, why don't shot the realistic color I mean is golden color not yellow color and hey this is a daylight photography it show Huawei well night shot but lack of on restore the true to real life color even the daylight just failed. Well you can wait Huawei give you the software update, maybe no or whatever, but why it isn't a finalised version and giving such betas and rush to launch into the market?

Color reproduction on image also natural & close to real life. On video recording, yes, its produce reddish skin tones on people, perhaps because of the first RYYB sensor implementation on the market. Your video link are just out right after P30 launch, with pre-released software. No worries, an update already fix the color reproduction, looks natural & true to life now. - https://youtu.be/xQmScWWABiw

Video comparison like this i like to see, lots of professional explanation from MrWhoseTheBoss. From that comparison, P30 is the top spot for me, especially low lights, no one ever comes close (not even Pixel's Night Sight). P30 Pro auto mod alone are excellent on low lights. Its the Camera Phone to beat as of now. Lets see how Xperia 1 holds up.

Shui8, 22 Apr 2019No offence, but i prefer picture details on the Mate 20. U ... moreAll in all these comparison we are talking about the low light photos both have their pros, but I don't think more details is more oversharpening but I know it has slightly oversharpening atleast not aggressive like Huawei did!
Let's see daylight camera comparison, Huawei shift the color looks tragedy as we can't see the red people in this world but Huawei show their ability on changing colors.

A smart Shooter, 19 Apr 2019Again XZ3 show the details much clearer than wiped Huawei. ... moreNo offence, but i prefer picture details on the Mate 20. U said Huawei wipe off details for the sake of noise free pics looks unnatural, for me, no noise reduction & oversharpen pictures looks unnatural as well, just like XZ3. Last time i remember, i dont see any grainy noise on each object i saw on real life, lots of color noise also dont persist on real life objects, so for me it unnatural as well. Its a 2 kind of situation, Mate wipe off a bit details to make pics noise free, XZ3 retain details by minimal noise reduction but crush it with excessive oversharpening. No two words about it, each with their own way camera algorithm as both using small camera sensor, unlike DSLR.

But in the end, i choose Mate 20 camera algorithm way over XZ3 does. I dont pixel peep image everytime pics captured (details are still flagship grade), i got better dynamic range, better highlights preservation, a lot better low light images, better bokeh effects, can do super macro, has ultra wide angle to capture urban city scene, RAW format, Leica 'smooth' & 'vivid' color option that i love it very much. Now Xperia 1 understands how to competes with others, hence the triple camera implementation. And by my own experience, i stand by my point.

Tann Hauser, 21 Apr 2019Actualy it is said to be a Samsung display... Wonder what... moreJoled does Not make OLED screens. It's has serious financial problems at present and hopefully a Chinese investment is coming to revive them. Guess Sony will continue buying from LG. It will take years to Joled to catch up to OLED tech, if they manage to survive.

Yes, everything should improve, maybe the future of smartphone screen is indeed 10bit HDR. But s 4K is too much for smartphone, but this phone has 1644x3840 not so far from 2K not 4K like on XZ premium, so its still ideal.

Bigger battery and faster charging, better camera are more important than better screen.

Anonymous, 21 Apr 2019Here's a honest comparasion between Samsung galaxy S10 plus... moreYou need to add a huge hole in the screen for Samsung (why they had to do that, after staying away from that atrocity until now, I can't understand), ugly arrangement of cameras on the back (that of course is about personal preference), and Samsung software (the reason I will not buy any Samsung anytime soon).

AlexP, 21 Apr 2019In this case, if LG made first 4k OLED display. So what LG ... moreActualy it is said to be a Samsung display...
Wonder what Samsung Mate and revs will "conclude" this time.
Or will it be the usual "We measured this and that, its a great screen, but still cant beat S10s amole"
"..... oh, wait. 404 checksum error"

Anyways, From next year expect japanese Joled screens on oled Sony phones, as them are starting mass production.

Anonymous, 21 Apr 2019The Sony Xperia 1 has a 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing display,... moreA wonderful explanation from that pro guy.

A first of its kind mobile screen of native 1 billion color gamut.

                        Extraordinary.

And it is quite a noticable difference to all the rest common 8bit oled screens.

Sony really made a gem here.

Tann Hauser, 20 Apr 2019Yeah, well, that may be true, but LG cant make the X1 mobil... moreThe Sony Xperia 1 has a 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing display, (or a 10-bit equivalent display) that Sony says can display a myriad of colours without banding…. The 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing display, commonly referred to as 8+2 FRC (Temporal Dithering).

This is a way of turning the 16.7 million colors from an 8-bit panel into the 1.07 billion colors that a true native 10-bit panel can display. 8+2 FRC uses various algorithms that flash 2 color tones very rapidly, thus giving the perceived impression of a third color that really isn’t there. This may sound like some sort of sneaky parlour trick, but almost all of the major panel manufacturers are now doing this. Atomos, SmallHD, Flanders, and even your 5K iMac display are all 8+2 FRC displays. 8+2 FRC panels are considerably cheaper to manufacturer than a true native 10-bit display.

The good news here is in reality, 8+2 FRC panels are almost impossible to distinguish from true 10-bit native panels. The only small difference is when it comes to viewing material that was shot in low light conditions at higher ISO values. On an 8+2 FRC display, the image will appear to show more noise than what an actual native 10-bit display will.
