Ioannis, 12 Jan 202121:9 ratio? Is this a joke or the rising of the TV control ... moreBlame critics and haters who pushed Sony too far back in 2017 to phased out 16:9 ratio earlier and redesigned their signature boxy design just for bezel-less design, only to be despise both from fans and haters in 2018 and return to the "signature blocky" form in 2019. Especially Japanese firms like Sony are loyal to traditions.
In multimedia industry, there are at least 3 standardized ratio. There are 4:3, 16:9, and 21:9. The former two is used in TV while latter is for cinema. Those two also has been ousted by smartphone companies since 2013 and 2018 respectively, and knowing Sony is a multimedia expertise giant and very technical and strict to standardization, 21:9 is the (only) way to go, though Sony had to settle with 18:9 for a year. Between 16:9 and 21:9 ratio (17:9, 18:9, 19:9, 20:9) aren't standardized at all, and even if it's existed, it never will be standardized. The regulations is there, so yeah.
Besides, every companies need its own unique selling point. But other companies followed Sony steps on mimicking Sony's ratio but scaling down around 21:9, despite first 21:9 phone wasn't by Sony. It was LG with BL40 Chocolate in 2009, 10 years before Sony resurrected it in 2019. After all, Sony wants to incorporate it's other divisions better in Xperia, so 21:9 is of course of the traits. And most people who handled 21:9 Xperias are able to managed to handle the phone and yes, the software also helps it.
Sure you don't like it, fine. There are more options there that aren't 21:9. But knowing Sony as multimedia expertise, with the 21:9 ratio phone era is entering the 3rd year, and its experience handling elements of it, you shouldn't be surprise at all.

21:9 ratio? Is this a joke or the rising of the TV control phones, totally useless in landscape, too narrow in portrait. I wonder why Sony is the starter of this obscurity and why everyone else follows?

Yesterday i received the long awaited xperia 1ii and frankly I was disappointed.
These are my observations:
- The screen contrast is low. I bought the telephone in order to read nice black font, it's basically becoming greyish. comparable (or even worse) than IPS. You can say the screen is good only for watching movies not for reading news.
- The navigation bar eats a good portion of the screen. can't be hidden.
- The resolution is not crisp enough because the pixels are not square shape, but rather they are "3 RGB sprayed dots" maybe in V-shape, no clear pixel boundaries, it's rather 3 shadows not totally superposing, rending it totally a FHD+ screen only.
- Gboard doesn't work.

Geek, 09 Jan 2021Is it true? in the native camera app, it will go to 4k 30fps, but if u go in cinema pro which is pre-installed in the phone, that app will let u turn it up to 4k 60fps and 4k 120fps

Badly noticable green tint. Exchanged for new unit, and those green hue won't go away boy such a let down. Either i am too unlucky to receive defect unit twice or the display is overhyped.

Has anyone else experienced audio problems over social media apps such as Skype, Discord, Whatsapp etc with regards to sound quality being received by the other party?
I have just 'upgraded' from an Xperia XZ Premium and my partner who I speak with regularly over Skype & Discord has been complaining about how terrible the sound quality is in comparison.
I have done my own tests by creating multiple accounts and calling my PC from each phone to test the quality and the Xperia 1 II is significantly worse than the XZ Premium.
What made it more interesting, however, is that when I am recording audio directly into the phone via apps such as 'Camera' (to record video) or 'Cinema Pro', the microphone quality is absolutely fine and crisp.
It leaves me with the conclusion that something in the phone is causing these problems when working with these apps and transmitting voice data. The issues include:
- Noise gating which persists even when noise gating is turned off in the app (also wind filter in audio settings)
- Muffled sound with a significant reduction in treble above 4-6kHz
- Unintelligible voice audio when stood more than 2 feet away from the phone
- Occasional squeaks which sound like a quick feedback loop when the other party speaks to me.
All phone audio tests come back with no issues and I've followed tech support in doing factory reset. All they can suggest is sending it off to the repair centre, but this doesn't make sense, the mic clearly works fine when recording directly into the phone.
I was actually so surprised about this phone. Aside from the Xperia 1 II looking and feeling beautiful, the camera quality and audio issues for other parties when using voice communication apps is a real drop in performance. I've basically downgraded my phone and have a regularly irritated partner due to this...

Ali, 06 Jan 2021Thanks brother It means it not hardware issue Camera is ok?? yes... no problem with your camera as per your observation... but you may considering testing macro shot under good lighting condition... test the nearest shot as well, different camera configuration has limitations on macro shots, you might be shooting too near than the limitation of the lens...

Ali, 06 Jan 2021Please please any one help me,i bought xpeeia mark 2 new an... moreWhat you're seeing is the TOF 3D depth sensor (for 3D scanning & Auto focus) emitting infrared light to measure depth. It's entirely normal as cameras are more sensitive to infrared than our human eyes.
