Anonymous, 09 Feb 2021Would love to have this phone. All the right features check... moreIf I'm not wrong Google Pixel phones are made by LG (OEM of Google).
Apple designs its own chips, Android phones have to deal with whatever Qualcomm (or Mediatek) comes up with. And Samsung has its own custom Exynos chips, which have their own problems. Naturally optimization is better on iPhones.

Why not have FM radio? You already have the headphone jack.
Make Sony the only smartphone maker which adds (or restores) features, not remove them.

Would love to have this phone. All the right features checked for me. Would have loved to get the 3.5mm port on bottom side. Never liked the top position.
On the topic of iOS vs android. I never liked apple products nor do I use but I do agree that their optimizations are quite better than android. I feel its cause of one maker n one software. While android is effectively millions of brands so that level of optimization is never possible. when Pixel phone arrived it looked as if android will have its moment. But sad to see google being lazy in each passing year in hardware. Such a shame.

New OnePlus User, 08 Feb 2021I'm guessing this phone will be available in the next ... moreAn OnePlus stan huh? Nice try there. Xperia 1 II was released in May 2020. And 1 III will be the same timeframe release if Sony decided to release in late February 2021, which's May 2021, so your point is up to invalid. NEXT!

Has anyone seen any word about the auto processing on the camera? Not having the software automatically switch from lens to lens to lens on the 5 III was a completely unintelligible thing to do. SO limiting.

I had the 5 II for a little bit (but had problems with updates). Will totally be looking at this phone because after holding the 21:9 Xperia 5 II, I'm in love with it. So the dimensions are legit.

I'm guessing this phone will be available in the next eleven months, maybe January 2022. I just don't understand the Sony strategy!

Sony has a market share of around 23% (+3%-3%) in the smartphone market as of Q3 2020. (That was a misleading statement) The reality is that Sony does not realizes that this 23% is the category called 'Others'. Yes Sony!!! you and hundreds of other unpopular smartphone manufactures are the category called 'others'. Sony however may be the only manufacture in the unpopular 'others' category that makes flagships and that are also sometimes more expensive than the actual top 5 popular flagship manufactures. Because of this unique position and because Sony already commands such steep prices for their smartphones, I would assume in 2021 Sony might have actually said "okay this year, this is the year we are going to make a smartphone(s): FIRSTLY with at least (2020) last year flagship standards i.e big battery, brighter and more energy non gimmick efficient screens, fast ram, fast charging that actually makes sense: SECONDLY with what 'THE PEOPLE' want: THIRDLY whatever Sony thinks 'THE PEOPLE' wants: FORTH whatever Sony wants, I this order ONLY.
Sony "nahhh we will just continue to do whatever we want! after all we are part of a huge 23% of the smartphone industry".
WILL SONY EVER MAKE A COMEBACK?

It's the Qualcomm guys limiting Sony. Even the new Snapdragon 888 can't output 4K over 60Hz. Maybe Sony can lower the resolution to may be 1440p and use high refresh rate in this phone if possible.

LOL, 07 Feb 2021You mean Sony's algorithms are not as **good** as the ... moreThey are not better or worse. They are just different. Sony uses different approach towards HDR and post processing. Through all these years they could have easily followed the trend, but decided to go their way instead.

IMO There is no periscope and it´s sort of ND on the main sensor (the last and bigger one). I expect SCinetone coming with Cinema Pro this year since Sony put some of their Alpha stuff here (A7SIII: 4K 120FPS and A1: maybe 8K on mobile?).

It is a pitty but the hybrid slot is a dealbreaker (maybe the most ridiculous invention ever in the smartphone industry. It is like Sony would produce the hybrid TV where you can choose if you want to have picture or sound but you cannot have both at the same time). The narrow display is also a bit strange but I could live with it. Same for the 4K resolution which does not make sense for a smartphone and only costs battery life. At least Sony keeps the headphone jack (although fm-radio would be nice).
I do not know why all manufacturers narrow down their specs so much in their high end phones. Where is the high end phone with a more wide display (in portrait) to make it easier to read documents and more ports. Maybe a second 3,5 plug for a microphone or a second usb c port for charging and peripherals at the same time? Replacable battery and IP68. For a Sony pro phone I also would expect at least 3 configurable side buttons to use it as a walkman or whatever I like... Seems all manufacturers follow more or less Apple but seem to have no clue what they should do...
