That display, audio upgrade from last year, microSD card, faster wired charging (30W is plenty for my needs), and versatile camera are too good to pass up. Still hoping the US gets a nice bundle with the pre-orders.

To be fair,whoever will buy this phone is not a newbie to Sony products because they already understand what they are getting.
Complainers of 4k is useless,battery is smaller than,no notch,3.5mm is outdated,no one needs microSD,no onscreen fps,pricing etc should TRY to understand that stuff like this distinguishes this brand....it's people like this that will demand to have a balcony in the ISS to chill only to be swallowed by space and other outrageous features like soft closing bonnets in cars.Specs aint everything,the integration and smoothness matters too and Sony nails it.

Jack, 15 Apr 2021Disappointed I am a big Sony mobile having owned the previo... moreBut the 1 III hasn't lost to the Mi 11 Ultra or the Samsung S21 Ultra in every way. Its screen is just as if not more color accurate (100% DCI-P3).
It has a microSDXC slot, whereas the two you compared it to don't. Data plans are not generous and more people will travel post-pandemic, so why not include that option? Sony wins there.
If the 1 III's camera's sensor, lens, and software are better than the competition's, which it almost certainly is, it wins in the camera department despite lower megapixels. The 1 III doesn't record video at 8K/24 fps, but that is something an infinitesimal number of people likely care about or would ever bother using with this generation of phones. A future Xperia will probably introduce that when more 8K content is produced and consumed.
Also, it has a headphone jack! I know fewer people are concerned with that these days, but Sony has great wired and wireless headphones to sell. High-end wired headphones seemed to become more popular during this pandemic, so why not cater to owners of these nice headphones? I'm sure many of them would prefer not to carry around a separate DAC/Amp or USB-C and Lightning to 3.5mm dongle.
It's not determined yet but will likely win as far as bluetooth codecs go. Neither the Mi 11 Ultra nor the S21 Ultra include LDAC support, and so far, the Xperia 1 III doesn't but likely will because Sony developed and has supported it before. The codec isn't being replaced anytime soon—unfortunately, none of the phones support LHDC. One would figure the Mi 11 Ultra would include that codec but no such luck yet. The Xperia 1 III will probably come out on top as far as wireless and definitely as far as wired audio goes.
All in all, the Xperia 1 III is a greater, more complete-looking phone.

Their pricing is killing.
Robbing own customers by selling phones worth 300-400 at manufacturing price for 1200 or 1500 bucks is plain stupid but works. Clumsy people pay everything.
Thats why other brands certainly wins over Sony or Apple.

Great specs. and still so simple and unique design. This new telephoto camera looks promising and the display with 4k resolution and 120hz refresh rate, wow. Way to go!

A good comeback from sony. Great happy to see the specifications. Big memory 512gb internal memory + external memory expansion. 3.5mm audio jack. Hope you keep proper price and this will be my next phone. Sony, you will beat all the crap phonea in the market now.
