Said back then it was a survival move. As I remember it also said it's supposed to be 5 years or so and judging by the name change/rebranding rumours (which were unheard off for previous generations) they are either going in 2 direction
1. There going to merge it with the alpha line of cameras
2. Make it an actual flagship PHONE with a redesign for a more expanded audience (they tried it with the mark 5 generation)
Either way only a few more months so we'll just have to wait and see

Well then, the current naming scheme is and should settle for more generations/marks to come if that's the case

We'll have to wait to see how long the future Xperia flagships will receive their OS upgrades and security patches, considering factors, but I do agree with giving additional updates for Xperia going forward.

Some baby steps are given on the 1 V, and they probably give and add more in the future lineup, but we have to wait to see what the future will give us.

IDK about this one. Considering Sony Alpha is the one who supervises Xperia all these times, it's going to be hard to do the same approach of all phone manufacturers that you wanted, especially when Sony approaches those who are familiar with Sony Alpha, not the new learners or average Joes. This is considering Sony Alpha is the stronger link while Xperia is the weaker link, and the times where removing features on phones are now getting even more common that will make Xperia even harder to stand out.

I am from Saudi Arabia and I love sony Xperia phones I have nearly all the models because I love getting one when they change or add a new nice feature. My only problem with my SX IV is that it has a very weak signal reception. And I hope they can fix that. Also, I am. Loyal fan of SX because of the SD card option which I can't find in other smart phones

Ah ... Even my Samsung S22u cant beat my xperia 1 ii in terms of audio visual. My eyes and ears choose xperia for multimedia, but choose samsung camera for superior AI 🤣

We'll see what the naming scheme the successor of 1 V will bring, but don't expect too much for any changes as it's been 5 generations—more generations than both XZ and Z series have ever been so far.

Since Xperia flagships last 5 generations is this could be the last 1 series. Really hope they change up the naming convention next year 1 mark xx sounds dumb

The equivalent competitor from iQOO for the Xperia 1 V is the iQOO 11 series (I'm abstaining from comparing their target market because that's going to create even more contrast).

And what does Gen 3 in IQOO 12 do better than 1V? I'll answer this one, it does nothing better than 1V. I suggest you take a look at the 1V display in person and see the video it can record in Video Pro app

way too overpriced actually for that kind for specs , compare to iqoo 12 with SD 8 gen 3 , iqoo 12 way cheaper

Considering sony flagships typically go for 5 generations there's a good chance the next one might not be called the 1 vi. Either way sony should just adopt a more straight forward naming scheme the 1 mark xxx seems weird. More importantly improve the software. it's the single biggest weakness of Xperia
