I just got back from a 3 week journey in Japan and I am so glad I had this phone with me as I travelled across the country. It was able to consistently capture all of the beautiful cherry and peach blossoms in beautiful 10bit HDR. I gave my Xiaomi 13 Ultra to my wife and whilst she was able to take some incredible point-and-shoot shots, the Xiaomi was toasted in video quality and many of the shots I got from the Xperia turned out better.

It's definitely the most consistent camera ever. My wife's Xiaomi (it's hers now), took a lot of really good shots, but completely blew a lot of others. The only thing I wish this phone had was proper 2x optical zoom and not a huge jump to 3.2x. Still, cropping works fine and I am extremely satisfied having a physical shutter button. There's really very little I can complain about on this phone. No phone is perfect but there's no way I would take a Scamdung or Apple over this phone. If only they would improve the point and shoot experience a bit, I would be even happier.

Because I don't play junk like Genshin Impact on my phone all day? Made, I just finished a 3 week trip in Japan (where this phone was made) and it consistently outperformed my wife's Xiaomi 13 Ultra. I took THOUSANDS of photos and hundreds of videos. I'm sorry you don't know how to use the camera on this phone, which is in a world of its own.

    My wife's Xiaomi was completely schooled by the video especially. Nothing stands up to the Xperia IV in video with 10bit HLG. The only times I missed a shot with the Xperia was when I was walking. I had to remember to always be still with the phone and my wife's Xiaomi always gets a clear shot even when moving. It's a small price to pay for thousands of good photos. Between the two of us, we took 5000+ photos of Japan in 3 weeks.

    I also got this phone for free thanks to work and I got a free pair of XM5 headphones with it. I think at least a handful of us here will get the device via similar means. Perhaps the best thing about the phone was that I took hour upon hours of 4K 60 and 120fps video and it never heated up, even in the 23°C heat and never lagged, stopped working or required a reboot or force close. My wife's Xiaomi constantly had to kill eg. Google/Naver Maps or something else because it was just freaking out in the heat all the time. Last week I had 14 hours of screen on time, mostly taking photos and videos and still ended up with 40% battery.

    Sony isn't dying. That's like saying Nintendo is dying lmao.

            Every single UI is clean even xiaomi fixed their UI. For sony it's even easier with almost 0 features compared to competition. No features=no buttons, no need for categories in settings and so on.

            Xyz microphones are not unique. A lot of smartphones used it in the past and for example s23 ultra is one of them. It's older than sony :))).

            What the f proper sensors supposed to mean? Same sensors like all flagship uses? XDDD

                  - Light to use
                  - Clean UI
                  - Three microphones in x,y,z coordinates
                  - Uninterrupted screen
                  - Proper sensors on top bezels (not virtual)

Because RAW/DNG main purposes is to retain image data without compressions and processing. If the RAW/DNG has processing on its pictures, it means it is not a real RAW/DNG and that's how it works on dedicated camera.

These two modes are way more important for most people. To have great manual is good and big plus but it's crucial to have great auto and portrait modes for flagship. And they are bad at it that's why most people buying vivo, xiaomi, pixel, samsung and apple instead of this. Other things as well are not that great on this device like device life cycle. Only 2 major OS updates is horrible in 2024. And so on and so on.

                        I just cross shot on Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Xperia 1V both photo and video and differences are aesthetical only. There was no tricky situation where one excelled more than the other. And I didn't (nor ever) I shoot focused static stuff such as closeups of flowers, food, trees, random buildings I shoot live action like 80% of the time. There are some still nature shots but I take them when the light is playing tricks on it and/or when composition is very good.

                        If I have to nitpick I would say 14 Ultra has some slight edge in photography while 1V got edge in video. But those are mu subjective findings. I shot both with main sensor in Pro mode without any scene detection/enhancements turned on and manual HDR when needed. Video was shot in 10bit in HLG/Dolby Vision on both, again all manual except focus.

Sad story about xperia they have hardware but their software is bad. If others is using sony sensors that doesn't mean sony xperia lineup has the best camera. Because of horrible software sony is barely usable as daily point and shoot, portrait modes are surprisingly bad for flagship device.

                              There is a big massive issue with Xperia phones - it's microphone! This and Xperia 10 V have problem with mic sensetivity. All people with whom I had conversation complained about this saying that they can heat me badly.

                              Please Google it - type Xperia microphone and you will see how many people looking for solution. Don't waste your money as these phones don't built for the main purpose of the cell phone which is to have a quality audio calls.
