It's much wiser to wait and buy the 5v. You'll essentially get all the features for significantly less price with compactness and better battey life due to sensible 1080p display. You'll probably miss out on continuous zoom but honestly it's a gimmick at this point. I do hope they give a 5x telephoto instead of a 3x on 5v.

5v would be closest it's gets to the perfect phone. TSMC chip with headphone jack, microSD card, notification LED, decent camera, decent UI, no notch, front facing stereo speakers, decent battery, ip65, ip68, compact etc. Honestly you could just keep using it for rest of your life! Good thing is that by next year it's price would reduce significantly. Don't worry, 8 gen 2 will remain a decent chip even after 5 years, just like 865 is still going strong.

Don't buy this. Buy Xperia 5v.

Disgusting from Sony ,expecting the customer to fork out $ 1300 and not supply even a charging cable .

Super Android 22, 17 May 2023Not quite but definitely close. I agree its one of the best... moreThat's where the 5 V comes in without that rarely used 4k screen & cheaper. Just hope they don't remove Notification LED on it.

Ripsamsung, 17 May 2023By far the best Android phone right now. At least on a pape... moreNot quite but definitely close. I agree its one of the best and is very exciting but the best... No. Top 3 best all round phones paper specs wise and like top 5 real life performance. Even though GSM battery tests are wrong (testing methodology is flawed) it will still do exceptionally well in real use and it has just every sort of niche option on a phone (headphone jack, card slot, front facing speakers etc which is cool).

Its got a pointless 4k screen thats not atleast LTPO (4k isnt worth it on a screen under about 25 inches) that runs at 1080p 95% of the time and doesnt have all HDR formats, slower wifi standards, super slow charging speeds, cameras that should be pushing top spot but never do like every generation of xperia phones for the last 10 years (and thats beaten in quality by the huawei p60 pro, I'd take the telephoto and that's it). No IR blaster, no IR biometric sensor, no ultrasonic FP scanner, out dated ugly design, not great software support (if software quality and support is a priority) and about £300 more than any other phone out (that are already £1200).

Nannu, 17 May 2023Boring design. Need for curved display for sony xperia. No it doesn't, just buy a phone that has a curved display. Sony didn't make this for you.

By far the best Android phone right now. At least on a paper. No other phone even comes close. Sony is wiping the floor with Samsung and others. If Sony just polished out camera app then it would be phone worth every cent.

AlexPP, 16 May 2023No face unlock. They never had this feature on Xperia 1All forms of face unlock are trash and a huge security flaw anyway, just don't be lazy lol.

For those that refuse to not be lazy there's a fingerprint scanner on the power button, and lemme tell ya, it doesn't even feel like there's a pin on my phone with my power button scanner, you press the power button to turn the screen on anyway so what a better time to scan your finger? I've never understood the people who want to scan their finger by smearing their print on their phone screen.

Lots of people complaining about sony phone because they can't buy this awesome master piece. buy this phone and use it for at least a month and then complain if you have hands on exp with this phone. I have iphone 14 and sold it to buy S23 ultra but when I saw this phone It's time for me to sell my s23 ultra I think I will keep this xperia I V.

                          Anonymous, 16 May 2023Atleast it's more reliable than other Android phones.Oh. I know. I had xperia 1, 1 II and Pro-I (currently)

AlexPP, 16 May 2023No face unlock. They never had this feature on Xperia 1What's the point of face unlock if it has capacitive fingerprint sensor?

I'd only use face unlock if phone have an unreliable under display fp.

What a moot excuse to diss Sony.

I don't know which foundry assembled it this time. I bought Z5P and XZP before. I feel that they are very good mobile phones but the assembly is very perfunctory.

Now lets see if Sony makes SAME mistake of having separate apps for shooting video and shooting still photos. And catch up to the times and add Desktop mode like Samsung, Motorola, HTC, Xiaomi.
Glad the Headphone jack, HiFi audio and microSD are still there.

S22, 14 May 2023The only reason i will not consider buying Sony phones. It gets 2 years of OS updates and 3 years of security updates just like the past 4 generations of Xperia phones. I don't know where you got your version of the number of updates from?

ruben543, 16 May 2023basically the improvements are --602 nits to 936 --barome... moreThey already had reverse charging before I think. It's not new.

Sony phones don't use Face unlocking. They scrapped it off their software in 2019 because they said it's not secure enough and they never reintroduced it after that.

Sony's night mode isn't meant to compete with the other devices that try to turn nighttime to daytime with theirs. They're just trying to give you better details and dynamic range while keeping nighttime, nighttime. I don't think they ever plan on going down the night-day route. You can achieve those results using manual controls if you're really interested though...
