There are so many things right about Sony phones. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they offered a larger display phone. I'm used to phablets and I don't want to go back to narrow phones. Give me 7.5-8in bezelless. (I'd be happy with 7in 16:9 too)

Anonymous, 11 May 2023I agree that its double layered which is great, but why not... moreBecause the crop done by EIS would be more if sensor was 4:3.

Why resort into afterthoughts such as cropping? Its 1400EUR so why have such unrefineness to it? It's so easily avoidable and Sony makes so many 4:3 sensors which makes this mistake stick out especially at such price.

osa320, 11 May 2023You take videos in 16:9 and photos in 4:3 so you would need... moreNo, you're incorrect, there's no better video because even 4k is just 8.3 megapixels so it doesn't use a 12mp sensor fully. Even if you start with a 4.3:3 sensor, you're working with same 8 megapixels rectangle as you would if it was 4:3! What you seem to think, which is making the sensor a little wider will use more area of sensor for video, is wrong. It's the same 8.3 megapixel rectangle, I hope you understand. So there's no better video. Even if you think of 8k, in phones that's done by remosaicing quad bayer sensor to achieve higher resolution from the same 8.3mp rectangle, because 8.3x4=33.2mp.

But in photos, there's no 4k barrier. As long as 4:3 standard is achieved, any resolution is acceptable. If the sensor is 4:3 then whole of it can be used. But by using a 4.3:3 sensor, they couldn't use all of it, resulting in worse photos. Had Sony use a sensor of same area which is 52mp/13mp but 4:3 we'd get better result due to more resolution, or even if they used a 48mp/12mp sensor of same size (like in iPhone 14 pro/max) with bigger pixel then that's better too.

Either way, one should admit Sony did wrong here. Just because you're a Sony fan, or fan of any brand, doesn't mean you shouldn't confess the mistakes of that brand.

I will definitely buy to replace my Xperia 1iii in Sweden it seems like we will get the MX5 bundled as well.

Tann Hauser, 11 May 2023As always, quite stpd comments. Just a sim1 and sim2 sl... more30W charging is even too much in my opinion. The damage to batteryhealth is not worth the 20 min shorter charge. (that would be 20 aeons in teen slang, yah?

man since 2017 and dash charge this been never an issue maybe only for you who is dare to try new future tech.
My phone charging at 67W battery is topped to 100% from flat in 40 minutes and is way too slow.
              Rest is as i sad.
If a person needs one sim card as personal sim and other for work plus SD slot shared sim tray is total garbage.
What yu have and working does not impress anyone because 7 years or 10 years old devices are good for GSM services only rest is useless because will be not supported y old android version.

Mobilemaster, 11 May 2023What I don't understand is if this phone has a 52 MP c... moreYou should refer OnePlus 8 Pro or OnePlus 9 Pro or OnePlus 10 Pro details. Sensors used on those phones are 52mp 1/1.35" Size with 1.12um Pixels. But, it's aspect ratio is 16:11. So, they cropped that 52mp to 48mp to get 4:3 aspect.
Same applied on Huawei P60 series mobiles & Sony imx800 sensors also.

Anonymous, 11 May 2023Lol it's not some "philosophy", stop making ... moreYou take videos in 16:9 and photos in 4:3 so you would need to crop somewhere.
The idea is that instead of having 4:3 sensor that take photos without cropping and video with a a lot of cropping it has a 4.3:3 sensor that take photos and videos with a little cropping.
You get better video but worse photos.
It's not good but it's not bad either.

There is no question about it.
From what can be seen by first revs, its capabilities are comparable to a 1.0" sensor on Pro I, even if not being of that size.

                                Stop being condescending.

Nokia 808 did that because of obvious technological limitations a decade ago. Nokia couldn't find a large sensor in 4:3 ratio so they had to crop one. There's no photographic benefits of cropping.
But today such excuse is ridiculous. Especially Sony, who themselves manufacture most sensors on any smartphones today, makes many large 4:3 sensors which need no cropping. But when it comes to own devices, they make such stupid decision. I mean the enitre Xiaomi 13 lineup uses 1" 4:3 sensors made by Sony! Iphone Pro/max uses 1/1.28" Sony sensor which is 4:3!

Just a sim1 and sim2 slot, and a pin needing one, is what Id call garbage, cause there is no any sd card option there whatsoever anyway, and no darn pin around when you re in a need.
