In summer it regularly reaches 40+ in city area, and 30 in night (can barely sleep without AC on lol).

I see like only 30 C at hottest in British Columbia, currently.
Maybe it can be that hot in city area at hottest period when the Sun is up high though.

We get 4 months of weather that ranges between 25c - 35c and with the humidity it's more like 40c+ ! Plus another 2 months of 20c - 25c. Last year I wore shorts from the beginning of June to mid November so yeah we do get hot weather !!!

Example of my usage:
Room temp is less than 30 Celsius (about 27).
When I watch some clip on these stupid online shopping platforms for like an hour (as they say I can earn some money by just watching these contents), the SOC temp already reaches like 45 Celsius (gotta put up some fan for air circulation), & definitely better not be charging the phone while using.
So they say safe battery temp should be less than 45 Celsius. When SOC gets that hot with room temp of 27, you can easily guess that battery temp also reaches close to it.
What if room temp is 30? Would be surly worse, though by then I already turn room AC on… but what about if I use the phone outside? What if I play some game on the phone? so and so.
The Samsung fabricated SD 888 chip is proven inefficient, and it does get hotter than most other chips out there, the only phone with SD 888 that manages to stay reasonably cool while gaming is ROG (it has internal fan).
I know it’s an attractive phone though you’d better be cautious when you travel somewhere hot.

(though when it's too cold like -20, it also affects battery life)
For that kind temperature and usage, you should be mostly OK.
For place with average temp of 30 or more, not so.
I know, because I like in that kind of climate.

I spend 2-3+ hours on calls per day and I watch movies, concerts and standup comedy daily as well that I transfer from my desktop (I have a huge digital library of movies, Tv shows, concerts, standup comedy and music). My phone gets a good workout every day, it does gets warm sometimes but not hot and never overheats...

Super Dave 01, 06 Mar 2025I've had my Xperia 5 III for almost 28 months now. It ... moreGreat.
But you should also note your condition such as weather (is your country hot or cool?), usage such as do you play games? do you use camera often? do you browse web often? do you do social and watch Youtube often and so on.
Because as for me, this device gets quite warm just by doing update in background or setting up new phone, using camera for 10 minutes and so on.
The temperature here is above 30 Celsius by average.

I've had my Xperia 5 III for almost 28 months now. It works just as good as when I got it back in November 2022. No green lines a or any lines for that matter. It has Never once overheated and I use the cameras all the time ! It's an Excellent phone and I luv the size and the notification light 😁👍. The battery is still in great shape as I charge the phone when at 20% and Never charge over 80% ! I'm going to keep the phone for at least another year or 2 and I might change the battery at the end of the year myself (very easy to do) as I've done it for some of my friends phones and my Xperia XZ2 ! It's funny my older XZ2 still works great to and it's my travel and backup phone !!!

You will have to try it yourself and decide.
If I were you no as I don't like the chip inside and there is a risk of getting green/pink line.

I am getting this phone for around 130 dollars here in Pakistan. It is in excellent condition. Should I buy it for its performance and quick app opening speeds? I do not play much gaming.

If you feel like you want to try it, you could but warn you that this phone gets hot.
Snapdragon 888 is quite bad (I have another device with the same one inside, and it gets hot and drains battery quite fast).

Seriously, you can pick any brand of your choice, but avoid any of sammy fabricated chip.
The heat and bad efficiency issue is real.
I had a couple of these chips with different brands, and had heating and bad battery life issue.
It was clear as these chips drain battery like 2 % every hour without doing anything, but once I got TSMC fabricated chip, the difference was significant (roughly over 50 % battery life improvement).
