I believe their mobile division is used purely to maintain and test sensors and other technologies which they sell to other manufacturers (mostly sensors). I think that in 2025, the 10 series will get a screen refresh upgrade and replace the 5 series as an upper midrange product, rather than a full blown flagship.
Do most of us have nostalgia for the old Sony - Yes.
Unfortunately, most other manufacturers all make devices that look and feel exactly the same, while Sony goes above and beyond to give us a high quality product. Henceforth my previous comment on state of the world, and the internet nowadays. Just make it cheap.

That being said, with fact that they are not appealing enough as their share has been dropping (now only less than 4 % in Japan, the top sadly is Apple), it would be hard to get people interested in their products nowadays.
I think their marketing sux for sure.

Specs of any phone/device on paper are the mere tip of the iceberg. For example, if we talk displays, everyone sticks to brightness and the resolution of the panel. However, there are matters which are not expressed like the positioning of the oled crystals that influence the angle of visibility, the pulse wave modulation of the brightness control (Samsung and Apple are notorious for low PWM), touch response, etc...
If we talk cameras, we talk about shutter speeds and ISO capabilities, the amount of light the sensor can take so as to eliminate noise and present contrast between light and dark better,
The quality of the materials used on the build and the process used to assemble those materials (not all plastic phones are made the same). We also have to consider the quality of the antennas and the SAR (radiation) value of the phone itself. Also, the quality of materials on the motherboard, the gold used for the conductors..... and I could really go on and on.
In conclusion, there is a vast difference between a $200 Redmi phone and a $1000 Sony phone. Sony phones are simply made for people who view the world a bit differently.

Quite a stupid phone in terms of its design changes, when compared to its predecessor.
5 IV had much slimmer bezels, was thinner, weighed less, while still sharing the same battery capacity.
I wonder why Sony downgraded the design? The 5 series was meant to be more closer to the 1 series, than to the midrange 10 series.
...And now the 5 series is gone. Smh Sony.

This is twice as costly as OnePlus Nord CE 4 and their Antutu score and camera megapixels are comparable.
I bought OnePlus Nord CE 4 two months ago and it works like a charm. Save your money from Sony, they just want to loot you because many people don't buy their phones anymore.

It might be me & how I did the biometrics, but I find the fingerprint reader is not that good on the Xperia 5 v, it maybe the phone case causing the issue (Xperia 5 iii case), but the Xperia 5 iii had a better fingerprint scanner, that was faster and had fewer 'fingerprint not recognised ' issues

Urgent, please a... moreI would say Xperia 5 v is quite slippery to hold, but as a rough test/comparison - the Motorola Moto G100 is less slippery. I always use phone cases with phones to add protection and reduce slipperiness this fixes it

The XZ range were so cool. Still love Sony design. Unique. Probably a bit too tall and narrow nowadays. Sony could have done a new XZ premium for 2024 ie same design but thinner bezels :)

sony just announced that the xperia 5 vi (6) will not come this year. so if you want to get a xperia 5 you will either have to wait another year for a phone line that may be discontinued or get this phone.
