Turn off all the data (WiFi, 3G, EDGE, BT) and NFC when not using it.
Activate Stamina mode in Power settings.
Disable all location services (in Settings -> Google).
Install Better Battery Stats from xda-developers forum and check if you have some program or setting that cause Kernel Wakeloks.

The only advantage of L over P is the screen 4.3 inch while Xperia P is only 4.0 inch and its battery with 1700 over 1305 mah and Xperia L has a cardslot. Xperia P is cheaper :)
