Sony Mobile has just confirmed what we already knew, a new Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware build is heading to Xperia S (LT26i), Xperia SL (LT26ii) and Xperia acro S (LT26w) owners. The Xperia ion is conspicuously absent in that list.

Sony says that the ETA is in a few weeks time, which matches our news yesterday that a new firmware version was certified by the PTCRB. Firmware build 6.2.B.1.96 is expected to bring a number of bug fixes, confirmed by Sony’s tweet below. If all stays on track, this means the update should arrive by the end of this month or early September.

Sony Mobile has today certified firmware version 6.2.B.1.96 for the Xperia S (LT26i) and Xperia SL (LT26ii). This is the same build number, from which a screenshot recently leaked. The fact that it has been certified today could mean it ends up rolling out by the end of this month.

The update is said to bring a number of bug fixes (1080p video recording, volume up bug, 2G data issues) amongst other improvements. You will also be able to long press the home button to activate Google Now. We’ll bring you more news once the update starts seeding.

I am planning to buy a phone and I am quite torn on what phone to really get still.

I am undecided on whether or not to go with Win phone... in such case I am eyeing the Nokia Lumia 920 very exclusively
or to go with Android... Xperia S because it just looks too awesome. What do you guys think?

I will mostly be using the phone for games, web browsing/camera and the like.

I have my xperia s for a year now, and I have no complaints... sure sometimes it freezes, but it is always my fault.. I turn on so many games, that are all left working in the background...obviously thats too much work for my phone, and then it freezes.. when that happens I just turn it off and back on, and it's like nothing ever happened :D really, a great phone.. it's fast, and the camera is great, and it has sooo much space for all my Play Store applications :D
