I wondered why people here does not complain about this very important issue. On the sony mobile blog there are dozens of complaints about this particular problem (In my opinion very big problem). I had this flickering from day one. Since my xperia sola was sent from abroad I was not able to ask for refund. So I solved the problem as follow. Firstable the update to the new firmware and 3 Factory Data Resets did not help. I noticed brightness under display settings does not work accurate along with the widget which controls the backlight (on the widget brightness is called backlight, which is wrong) On the xperia sola there is no backlight control. Well to the solution. I downloaded an app to control the brightness. Do disable automatic brightness at all times. Then set brightness to between 40-100. I noticed under 40 the problem starts on my sola regardless the automatic brightness situation. The solution posted on sony envolves the disable of automatic brightness only. As I said the range seems import too, and I recommend you not to use the "backligt widget". In my case it helped. It was very annoying especially with white colours. I solved the issue two months ago. It never appeared again.

In my opinion an update to ICS does not mean you get all the benefits. Imagine new ICS-features for the camera in a phone without a camera. I think you get the idea wifi-direct is not listed as a xperia sola feature.
Wikipedia: "WiFi-Direct works by embedding a limited wireless access point into the devices." So it seems it is hardware related.

As far as I know... morebut there is option for wifi direct in setting when upgraded to 4.0.4,
then whats the use of it if its not supported??

hi, im here in KSA, i have a problem with my sola, can't download the settings for internet from the network. says downloaded successfully but the access point is inetnet postpaid and im using prepaid... i tried my sim to another phone and its ok... can anybody help... is the problem from network or the phone... thanks

I have updated my xperia sola to ics 2 weeks back, and right now I can say it is worth upgrade. The touch has become fluidic, overall user interface has changed and it is quite brilliant and above all the new walkman feature is completely excellent. Sound quality in headphone has improved a lot. Battery backup has remained same.

Excuse me could somebody help me how to upgrade os from Gingerbread to ICS ? Everytime I want to update, It always stop in the instructions when I must press the volume down while my phone is turn off. Could somebody give me some solution ? Thanks before
