androidy, 26 Dec 2013Should I buy xperia sp or s4mini? S4mini has removal batte... moreWiFi is weak but not that much weak. you have to keep the router in 10 to 15m radius. Screen is very much responsive with the Glove Mode turned on so i suggest use the phone with glove mode on you'll face no problems at all. But it is totally your choice that what do you prefer. LCD vs AMOLED, plastic design vs head turner design, Sony vs Samsung, 4.3 vs 4.4.
Its all up to you.

I have been using Xperia SP for 5 months and there is one thing I want to say that this phone is awesome.

I even dropped it once but even though that it's performing smoothly.

What I wanna ask is that android 4.3 for this phone was supposed to be released in December which is now...but it's already Christmas...

So, does anybody know is there gonna be an update this month or is it going to be delayed??

okay guys so I have been following this thread from ages, so after having Xperia SP for like two months, here's a full-fledged review from a geek, for those who plan to buy it, or who are relatively new owners :) -

Colour: first of all, its the color that matters when you've made the choice that you're going to get Xperia SP. I own a white one, one of my college roommates has a Black one, and red one is supposedly not available in the indian market. Lemme tell you, if you truly want your phone stand tall in looks, go for the white one. The white one is so classy, it comes almost in the league of iphone5+ class in looks, which is a huge factor you get in this price. True, the white will demand maintainence, but believe me, every second person you know will come and ask you which phone do you own! Even my roommate who owns the black SP, envies my white one! To manage my white Xperia, I've had it laminated with a matt finish layer on all four sides (three sides + a matt finish screenguard), and I've been using it without a cover. There's not a single scratch anywhere till now, you should just know how to manage it properly. If you cant, I suggest you to go for the black one. :)

          Phone Performance:

Hardware: I wont go into the details much here as you all must be knowing about the processors, the ram and all. I'd only want to tell you that this phone is sturdy, a tough one really. I dropped it once from the first floor, but id didnt get any sort of damage, not even a scratch!

Software: The software as you all know is 4.1 android jellybean. The phone handles this really well. the is no lag. I'm not lying, no lag at all even with 25 apps working at the same time! I have about 50 apps downloaded (like, the really standout ones!), I'm mostly online on at least 3-4 chat softwares simultaneously and I keep on switching, with music in background of course, but this beast just refuses to lag! its pretty amazing to see that as this is that one factor that gives you the true satisfaction that you have every single penny spent on this phone truly worth it! its a 10/10 here. :)

Camera: the camera on this phone is no doubt a bit let-down, but with some tweaks in the camera settings, becomes good enough & usable on the go! you can look up for those settings on the internet. I dont use any third party apps for camera and its quality is pretty much satisfying. It doesnt really deserve all those bad remarks and comments as users have been throwing at it. You just need to set up some setttings, thats all. I'd rate the camera as 7/10. satisfactory. :)

LED lights: okay guys this may seem funny, but if you wanna attract some girls with a gadget, SP is the way to go! LED lights is one thing on the phone that make every single person of the room craving, and jealous of. LOL it even makes the owners of Xperia Z1 jealous and disappointed that they dont have them on Z1 haha I've experienced such cases :P! I was skeptical as to whether LEDs will look as bright with White SP as they'll do with a black color, but it does it job perfectly. looks super perfect! again - a 10/10!

Connectivity: I mostly use 3G on my device, and lemme tell you, the internet on this phoen is mind-boggingly fast! On an average, it gives me a speed of about 1.2-1.5Mbps, I'm using Airtel network! My other friends who use the same network get only about 800kbps, or 1mbps at max, so I guess this is again a thing that sets this device apart! As far as wi-fi is concerned, it does have a network detection problem, but I've noticed that even if you just have an low reception of the wifi signal, it still sucks out the maximum speed out of it. I'm using a BSNL broadband at home, it gives me a speed of 250kbps which is I think the max BSNL provides on its network. Personally, I like to be on 3G way more, it just amazes me with its speed! :P overall, i'll give it an 8/10 here.

Screen: The screen and its colours are very much vivid, but then, yeah AMOLED is the king in that department. That being said, it doesnt mean Sony lags any quality here, its still pretty amazing, only the viewing angles are not so good. but Then, you buy a gadget for your own personal use, right? The Sony Bravia Engine here gives the overall feel of your gallery and videos pretty fantastic and will definately leave you craving for more due to its vividness. :) its a 9/10 here.

Gaming: I, guys, am a hardcore gamer! I have owned PS2, PS3 and now a PS4 as well,so that just defines my gaming attitude lol! I've played games like Modern Combat 4, Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, Virtua Tennis 4 and Riptide 2 on this device so far. Guys, hands down this phone is a beast when it comes to gaming! Sure, it heats up when you play these heavy games, but which phone doesnt, huh? There is not even a single lag I've experienced in any one of this, and thats truly incredible to see and feel! You just have to experience this to believe it. No-brainer, its a 10/10 here as well!

Battery: Now this thing depends on how you are using your mobile, right? Thats why so many mixed comments. Alright, when on 2G network, this battery gives you a life of about 2-2.5 days on a heavy usage, yep thats right haha! However, when on 3G, on a relatively high usage, it will give you a backup of about 12-15 hours. It all depends on how much time you keep the screen of your mobile on. On wi-fi, it gives you a life of about 15-18 hours. All these specs I'm giving is with auto-sync and background data always on enabled, anddd, NO Stamina mode or Low-battery enabled at all - so yeah thats again pretty amazing for a dual-core smartphone! When you're constantly working on internet, be it surfing or whatsapp, on a stretch this gives you about 5-6 hours backup which is still pretty great considering the constant load you're putting on the battery. On non-stop walkman, the life you get is about 15-17 hours, again - mind boggling! On gaming non stop, and I mean really high-end gaming, not the minnows like temple run and all, it gives you about 4 hours backup. Now you decide it yourself how's the battery. For me, I'll give it a 9/10. Almost perfect. :)

          Overall Verdict:
I'll keep this one short here, if you have a budget of 20,000 INR, dont think, just go get it! Samsung S3 and Nexus 4 are two other good choices that come under 25k price here, but I cant say if any of those will be able to beat the fluidness I get from my SP. Also, SP stands really tall in the looks when compared to these other two. Sony has done a brilliant job with this gadget here! I'm totally Impressed!
          Overall Score: 9/10!

          Review in one word: AWESOME!

I am surprised that the SP has a higher rating than the original Arc. OK, the SP does have adequate memory, and the screen is twice the resolution, but it is much bigger, chunkier, heavier and, most importantly, I find it frustrating to use.

Whether it's Jelly Bean or the Sony UI, I am not so sure (although I suspect mainly the former), but navigating around is much harder for me.

It seems that Google are trying to copy Apple in it's OS. Why? The OS is much less intuitive as a result. JB now makes it harder if not impossible in some cases, to cut or copy text from anywhere. Navigation is less user friendly and less efficient, with sequences requiring 'finger darting' from top to bottom of the screen. Gingerbread was actually pretty good. OK there are some technical advances with JB, but it has become much less user friendly in the desire to emulate Apple.
