AnonD-83561, 22 Dec 2012Its a sad thing that sony wont be giving the J.B update to ... moreYes there are a few updates floating around, which claim to address at least some of the issues people are finding with ICS, but since Sony seem to have a policy of not announcing the specific fixes and changes, the only way of finding out for sure is to wait and hope the updates get seeded to your phone's SI number. However there are suggestions that 6.1.1.C.1.10 for instance contains improvements for wi-fi, tethering/portable hotspot, camera (capture and playback), NFC [not relevant to Xperia U] and messaging.

anyone whos reading this and have updated his or hers xperia u to ics , could you please kindly tell me hows the over all performance does it really lag that much because i read many bad comments about that it lags a lot and just to open the camera or contacts takes lot of time , but also many of them have written that after updating and factory resetting once the lag issue is resolved .
i really badly want to update to ics but iam afraid that it will lag badly like many have proclaimed ????

AnonD-91740, 21 Dec 2012What exactly is the Project Butter based on? Number of proc... moreNow apart from the processing power we also need to focus on the battery life. Surely Snapdragon is an inferior processor but that also means it will be less battery consuming. Also the J has a battery of 1750mah but the other two phones have a 1320 mah battery with a higher power consumption. So it may run JB smoothly but I don't think you will like the 6 hour ( shorter battery life ) it will deliver.

The Sony engineers take the overall experience into account not only whether it will smoothly run it or not.

( The Project Butter details were taken from www.techradar.com )

AnonD-91740, 21 Dec 2012What exactly is the Project Butter based on? Number of proc... moreThe engineers behind Jelly Bean have made a concerted effort to finally shake the lag and general lack of responsiveness Android has historically been known for.

Google used a variety of methods to accomplish this feat, ranging from "vsync timing" (ensuring a consistent frame rate across all screen drawing and animation) to triple buffering, which appears to be the key component which results in an overall smoother feel across the user interface.

However, it's not just improved frame rates and faster gesturing that makes Jelly Bean fly – it also synchronizes the very touch of your finger to its vsync timing, attempting to anticipate where you'll want to go next.

Finally, the software steps on the gas at just the right time, offering a boost in processing power at the next touch event to cut down on any remaining latency.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2012i got my new sony u and i checked for updates. there is no ... morefirstly install pc companion in your laptop or desktop then after you install it connect your phone then after it detects your phone click on check for updates you will be needing internet connection in your laptop then if ics update is available then it will show new update avalable , but it wont say that ics update is available it will give the build no.
you wont get major updates like ics from the phones software update option itself its only possible using pc companion.
iam too from india and i already got the update but i havent updated it as i heard that phone lags a lot soo

AnonD-51841, 22 Dec 2012The specs say it has. 8gb and 4gb user available, so what a... morethe actual memory in xperia u is 8 gb out of which 4gb is acessible via connecting to a p.c , we can store music , vedios, etc in it and 2gb is saved as phone memory which is not user acessible used as storing apps nly and the rest of 2gb is pre occupied by the O.S ,so its basically like we only can use ,4gb + 2g = 6gb rest 2gb O.S occupied.
                    i hope ew understood !!

Sundar Pichai, 21 Dec 2012As the main element of JB update is Project Butter which ma... moreWhat exactly is the Project Butter based on? Number of processor cores? RAM? GPU? Screen resolution?

                                        (1) It's safe to say that Dual-core processor of U and Sola has advantage over crappy single-core outdated processor of J.

                                        (2) J, U, Sola all the three have got 512 MB RAM and share same screen resolution. This is where GPU comes into the play. While U and Sola have got Mali-400, J has got the shitty Adreno 200. It doesn't take a genius to conclude that Mali-400 can push all those pixels more efficiently and without any lag compared to Adreno 200.

Despite this, Sony plans to upgrade J to Jelly Bean while U and Sola are given wooden spoon.
