It is the memory that you can access (:P) and have your pictures, music, videos and your other files stored on.
If you want to know the amount of memory the phone has, it has an 8GB of memory. Out of that:
- 2GB is used for the OS
- 2GB is used for the apps you install
- 4GB is user accessible (explanation above :D)

Bought this last week, played max-payne(1.3 GB).. Also tried installing gangstar gio but couldn't play as device still unrooted..
Interface is very smooth, NO LAGS at all.. i have tons of widgets on home screen.. Memory is enough for pics/vids/files.. Only issues is with large 3D HD games, can NOT store more than 2 at a like e.g max payne & gta 3 uses all memory.. so everytime i hav to delete one old game to store one new..
Otherwise love the device.. Looks are soo very awsum.. My gf loves it too :D

The actual figure is a little bit higher, more like 380MB but there is some memory reserved for system that the process viewer is unable to report. Both figures are significantly lower than the 512MB total because of memory reserved for hardware devices, particularly the display. This is exactly the same as on desktop and laptop computers with integrated graphics, though a bit more noticeable when starting with only 512MB memory rather than 2GB or 4GB.

If not, it could be worth trying a different channel number on the router since especially some of the higher numbers are not compatible with all devices (due to international regulations, variably applied).

venkat, 28 Jul 2012what is user accessible mnemory????? it means 2gb is for the phones Operating System and another 2gb is used for apps so out of the 8gb u can only save pics, music and vids to 4gb... hope this was helpful ;)

i didnt face any problem with network neither restart thing,my phone is superbly great and sony admit that the baseband of the firmware need some improvements as weell as the company promised to push an update for the firmware in the next 1 or 2 mnths( and the ics is cming)
speaker are good?calling sound are clearr and the sound of music is good not too loud but still oke.
trust me u wont find any difficulty with no mem card,u should only avoid putting a lot of videos,and games u may face problem with the iinternal storage if the game is 1 gb and above.other then that the phonr is awesome.

I want to say that this phone is nice its camera features are also nice, its battery that stay for 1 or 1and half day, but its disadvantage is its memory
