so did you disable any built in apps in ics before it appeared, or the black strips in 720p video was already there in the stock untouched ics right after the update?
I got doubt whether it happend as a result of me disabling several bulit in apps in ics. I did it right after the update as well before checking whether there was this problem.
so is there anyone else who got problem playing 720p videos in xperia u.
several black strips or lines appearing in the video, when the frames move faster, as if xperia u lacks RAM or something.

yeah i encountered the same problem, the strip while watching video in 720p mode. but it can be fixed sometimes, in my case, i cleared some software and it fixed.
the other problem in U, the camera has a purple spot and in ICS, the autofocus can take a long time (5 to 15 seconds) before the shot. it is a pain in an ass. but the camera quality is fine with me although it isn't perfect.
i think you better choose U. my friend bought j and in two weeks time, her J have some problem, the J cannot be turn on and it takes a very long time for the service centre to fix it. in my friend case, it took two months. and J only has single core. unlike U which has dual core.

Good phone to Purchase... sometimes shows low memory. Only inbuilt memory of 8 GB is there. Hence use your memory wisely otherwise phone will become low. now 9 months have gone . sometimes its get hanged .But otherwise looks/other hardware is good./ camera is also good.
At the end good phone to buy but also watch out for Micro Max Canvas series.

Pros:vibrant display,crisp text,quality sound,good call quality,nice UI,supports OTG cable,fast camera,fast charging,best value price,720p video capture,matte back finish,cool chameleon-like colorful LED light strip,notification light,dual core processor,3D surround sound,very responsive physical buttons,changeable bottom cap,recently awarded at MWC 2012 "Best Value Phone Award".
Cons:soft/washed-out images captured by the camera,LED flash light of the camera is too bright,noticeable lag ,no microSD slot!!!limited storage,12mm thick ,pls do not overwork it makes ur phone unresponsive remember 512mb RAM only...

Ashi, 25 Apr 2013I purchsed this phone in April and facing so many problems.... moreits a bug in xperia u buddy.
the only solution I found was to forget the network in phone and turn off the WiFi modem. restart the phone and after a few seconds turn the modem on again.
worked for me every time.

try a battery-out-restart or a software repair.
theres some prob with your phone.

compared to U, only thing in xperia j is it got jellybean.
but for that price, it got nothing worth buying for.
may be the fwvga resolution? well no use as well, coz 90% wvga games dont work in xperia j. and the phone itself is one of the worst lagging androids out there.
I recommend sola; just few bugs in ics but sd card and 6gb internal, or if you are a bit outwardy, take the go; gets jellybean and waterproof.
if you want the U and doesnt care for memory and jellybean update. take it.

its there in all xperia u
lock your screen off and hard press the shutter key. the phone will start the camera in quick mode and automatically snap whats in front of it at the moment. awesome fast in gingerbread, 1.2 second snap
any idea about the video scaling problem dude?
