Another ... moreClearly you should go for sony's offer; the stock android is great, you get waterproofing, stereo speakers, and well updated software; samsung normally has laggy, bloated software with hardly an update in sight. Stay FAR away from samsung, that's for sure...

But I find the X Compact a bit small for y hands/needs. The 5-inch Xperia X could be nice option but my "comfort" zone is 5.2" & above. And I could do with some water resistance too. Not just nano coating or "false" IP ratings.

For cameras gsmarenas comparison tool is pretty good.

The x series sonys have been better in terms of updates than the galaxy a series so far also.

Looks set to be a true flagship grade phone with a design similar to the x compact.

Why oh why this phone doesn't have IP68? Why they didn't make him waterproof? When I saw this phone I was amazed with size and power and I thought that it was a XZ compact, and I was like "Oh this baby is mine" but then someone farted and said "check him on gsm arena" And I saw no IP68, so I farted too.

I can live with 5-inches but anything above 5.5" is verging on phablet territory.

The... moreI hear you brother, it's slim pickings for a small compact reasonably powerful modern Android device. The phone companies are missing a trick here as there is huge demand for such a device which is why the smaller iPhone SE is such a hit, especially with women who generally don't like bigger phones.

Seems the only options we have are those you've pointed out or having to go for budget devices with poor specs like a Samsung J1 Mini. For what it's worth I still think the 4.6" screens are little too large, the 4.3" display on my S4 Mini is the sweet spot for usability and power. I can live with 4.6" though :)

The A5 2017 is too expensive for its specs. The disappointment of the Moto G5 Plus having no compass was a deal breaker for me. The J5 2017 is again expensive for its specs and the camera is a disappointment (same as the Nokia 5) and the UK-made Wileyfox Swift 2X has questionable video recording audio, no image stabilisation though price is affordable for its specs. So, I'm stuck with the X Compact, Galaxy A3 2017 and iPhone 6S.

Gino76, 30 Jul 2017Might sound like a stupid question but what makes the X Com... moreThe only two things that make the X Compact a "better" compact than any of those alternatives is the battery life and the 3GB RAM. If those are not too important to you then the the iPhone SE is smaller, the Z5 Compact has IP68 certification and is fractionally smaller and the iPhone 6s is a different class of phone altogether so not even a proper alternative.

Might sound like a stupid question but what makes the X Compact a better "compact" phone than say the Z5 Compact, iPhone SE or the 6S?
