Just a warning; maybe try to email Sony support where you live to see what options you have to repair the phone. Should anything happen or phone screen cracks, Sony doesn't support or fix this at all in the US. Same thing with Sony Xperia X, X Performance and XZ (I tested it). Overall I love the phone and I like it far more than anything I've had at all but the fact that there's absolutely no support with high end cost is rather tricky and annoying. As of yet, no partnerships to even fix it in the US so you have to buy replacement parts which costs in the ballpark of 150-200 to just fix the screen (beyond taking a heatgun to your phone to pry it apart).

This is assuming the water protection will last through a repair like this. Overall disappointed in the US release as it's not a market Sony cares about at all (they disable the fingerprint sensor as well as have no partnership in the US to repair phones yet -> they've been claiming they're working on this for 7+ months). I like the size, the screen resolution, responsiveness, water protection (even if i don't test it) and more and I find it's a great overall phone. But I have to now know this and test this with any future phone but I've tried several competitors and by comparison it always seems less or worse than this one (which is sad). I would state it's not a good idea to purchase if you live in the US.

        Even the iphones...

Guess you meant the camera app heatup...seeing no problem in XZ higher res 30 min video recording capability tho, its perfectly sufficient.
Max recording I ever did on a phone was 10 min, as did most mobile users.

Dont see nothing wrong about FHD res on a 5.2 incher, its crisp as sunglare on antarticas snow.

I will wait until xz2, i will do "it" again if sony repeat the same mistake again (e.g. plastic but overpriced, no 2k, huge bezel).

For general purposes, I have already stated that I think Sony have optimised the performance with XZ and 820 as good as anyone and yes better than most.

But camera performance is another thing, I can't call that integration much good when I am frequently starting at the 'the device temperature is rising. If it continues to rise, the app will shut down automatically.' message now can I?

Guess I'll have to stick to 1080p30 and ignore the higher settings completely, truth be told that setting produces very nice results, but I'm not going to hide my disappointment that I can't trust this camera to record anything more than that just to so you lot can continue to feel good about loving Sony as a brand.

And as you don't even own said device, don't presume to tell me how I am finding the performance.

Not Qualcomms fault if an oem cannot create a product that best utilises it's Snapdragon products, the 820 wasn't created with the XZ specifically in mind you know.

No, customers of Qualcomm purchase their products with the view of intergrating them Into their own devices, they do this knowing full well the specs and capabilities of the SoC they are purchasing.

They then design a device around that SoC (that's an oversimplification, but you get the point), and in theory do hundreds of hours of testing before taking the end product to market.

This thermal warning message that frequently pops up when using the more intensive camera features to me says that the testing process is incomplete, that is not Qualcomms fault.

Why am I constantly having to defend my findings and my experiences to you and Hauser, what is it with the two of you? I've bought an XZ, and I like the XZ for the many things it does well and despite the few things it doesn't, not my problem you fanboys have a problem with any of that.

Actually it is quite debatable, as evidenced by the volume of debate on the topic across the web from sources far more knowledgeable then you. The end result of said debate is that the 'extra' tech present in the XZ camera array is of questionable value.

I can attest to that is I am seeing little to no added value and quite a few drawbacks. My google photos stream is littered with pics and clips taken from numerous devices, those taken by the various Xperia devices I have used over the years in don't exactly stand out as far as quality is concerned.

"To truely have basis to criticize Sonys camera performance and restrictions, one has to compare to same parameters of other phone camera, which are....nonexistant."

Nonsensical comment that would seem to suggest you believe any cross platform comparisons or Critique of devices is irrelevant due to the uneven hardware?

Theres the 23mpx sensor with its pixel count process, theres steadyshot process, theres additional 5 axis stabilisation process, theres triple autofocus processes, and rgb sensor process....all dependant on the SoC.
None have that amount of tech incorporated in camera.
So XZ has every right to cause heatup while using the camera.
Whether it would fare better if OIS was incorporated, remains to be seen. But OIS has its limitations, just as EIS has its own.
