The XZ kills the S7 when it comes to video stabilization + the colors are so much more natural. The S7 has over-saturated colors like it's on acid or something :))
Every photographer knows the best photos are the ones which capture the most natural colors, post-editing them later with Photoshop.

XZ' battery easily can last a day in heavy use. Calling it's battery life below average is a huge understatement. After all, XZ's battery does perform better than the LG G5, HTC 10, Galaxy S7.
XZ' battery life surely is good, but nothing great.

Something for best photography with sony fones from my experience:
1.Superiour auto is good for taking fast pictures if there is time use manual mode.
2.for night and low light use 8mp instead full resolution.
3.If there is time use manual mode . in manual mode there is not necessary to toggle all settings just play with iso. Use lowest iso as you can. with lowest iso there isn't any noise. for daylight 50//100 for night 200//400 .
4.Don't worry about use lowest resolutions like 8mp because in this resolution camera use its 20/23 megapixel complietly but with downscaling with pixel-blending method(not delete 2 of three pixel on the matrix) .
5.A bad thing about superiour auto is that use the high iso values that not needed in many cases and cause noise . Even in manual mode if you set iso on auto then auto mode use high values for iso that just make some noise.

Design is depend on own preferences, but personally I love Sony design especially the old omnibalance design language.
Sony has great brand image, so as long as they make a "decent" smartphone that is fully functional as a smartphone, then I'm sure it will sell well.
The main problem with Sony phone is overheating, even the camera overheat and close itself after just a few minutes of recording. No matter how good the camera or stabilizer is, it is useless if you can't do what it was supposed to do.
And did you know why most Sony phones did bad in benchmarking apps? thermal throttling is the culprit. The temperature rising to the point that the SoC has to clocked down to protect itself from damage even before the benchmark is done. And it clearly visible when you did the benchmark a few times consecutively. They really should do something to improve cooling performance on their phones.
The second main problem is battery life in daily use. They are below average, let alone fulfill the 2 days promise said in marketing. It even struggling to survive one day in normal smartphone use.
The third reason is Hirai, Sony really need to fire that guy... his "cut price to earn more profit" strategy is no good. Sony brand image is screaming about quality and perfection but they actually use lower grade parts in their smartphones leading in not so perfect performance.
For example in internal storage usage, while other brand already using fast enough internal storage to score 40k - 50k points in passmark disk benchmark, Sony only put second grade internal storage with speed that can only score about 30s k points. With one exception in Xperia X, they put a good one there and able to score a generous 41k points.
I hope Sony can fix those issues in the next flagship. I really want to hold and use Sony phone again with pride without the need to limit myself from using some features which makes it a real smartphone.

I think they made the Ultra line to compete with the Note. As more Korean women started liking the Note. Xperia Z Ultra was 6.4 with top specs. Then they made forgot about the spec part and kept to 6 inches for; T2 Ultra, C5 Ultra, and XA Ultra. Which all ended up being mid-range. I think they miss their chance on the XA Ultra should had been the X Performance, to compete with the Note 7, especially after the whole blowing up part. The Note 7 is only 5.7 inches.

You should at least appreciate that you have a choice and a wide range of models.
Oh, and im not old, I just love good design. ;)
