Vortex, 14 Jul 2020Definitely ip7 don't get Xz1 it's heat's up ... moreafaik iphones r not for gaming
my xperia xz1 little bit warm from playing games, yes sometimes lagging, barely, little to none.
I believe bcs its an old phone, the chip degraded, but it's better than mid range chip phones.
btw pubg is pretty heavy game, pretty sure any phone with sd835 couldn't handle highest graphics, not just this phone.

Shiro39, 20 May 2020I got myself the SoftBank Japanese version for around $150-... moreI also got softbank version and updated it to Android 9 using Xperia Companion (via PC). You can download it from Sony's website. If I'm not mistaken, there's about 15 updates that I got until the latest one.

Hi, i just bought this phone as a secondary and this is my review:
1. It's not that good for gaming, i have a little bugs when playing mobile legends and for pubg mobile, i got a little bit touch-delay (but the gyro is perfectly responsive) but there is a solution for this, use GFX.
2. The camera is great for an almost 3 years old phone, you got the quality, sharp, and the color is realistic, but when it comes to Dynamic Range, it's not that good. As an example when you took a picture on lowlight it will be so 'noisy' as if the screen is full of dust, or when you took a picture with highlight background, it gets noisy too.
3. The battery last 2.5 Hours of full gaming (while using mobile data) even when the battery's health is only 80% so that's impressive
4. with fast charging 18W i can get 0-100% around 1 hour and 40 minutes plus it's type-C so you don't need to mind whether the charger is upside down.
5. Overall its good at it's current price, i bought it for 100$ so with this i gave this phone as the best "100$ class" smartphone

Husairi, 16 Jun 2020Do xz1 have heating issue like other sony? Depending on what you do, most high-end (and many mid-range) phones tend to heat up slowly when you play heavy 3D games after 10 minutes or so. My XZ1 temperature will never go over 41°C at heavy usage, it's just warm and its metal casing helps cooling down the heat quickly. Idle temp is 33-34°C. On web browsing, the temp may rise between 35-37°C.

Maximusthinker, 05 Jun 2020Sony XZ1 or iPhone 7 ?If gaming is your priority then go for XZ1. Why? Simply bc its' GPU runs a bit faster and cooler than the one in iP7 (that gets hot quickly so unable to sustain peak performance). Browsing may be faster on the iPhone but if you like to watch streaming videos it will drain battery quickly, even on iP7+

nghtfll, 30 May 2020xz1 softbank price is drop rn and im intrigued by sd835.
i... moreXperia XZ1 doesn't support RAW capture and the post processing image from the stock camera app is soft and dark. I've own both the Pixel (non-XL) and the XZ1, changing from Pixel's OLED screen to XZ1's IPS LCD is terrible at first but after a week it seems fine. The only reason I bought the XZ1 is because my non-XL Google Pixel's battery is at its limit where it occasionally shut down at 40% and the cost of replacing the battery is cheap but there's a high risk on removing the thin OLED screen which is expensive.
The conclusion is keep your Google Pixel XL if you're into photography. If you need to game then buying an XZ1 as a second device is a great choice since the Japanese carrier set is cheap.

xz1 softbank price is drop rn and im intrigued by sd835.
im currently using google pixel xl to editing photos and playing games which really suck to experience smooth gaming with sd821.
should i change to xz1? what i concern is I'm literally changing from AMOLED to fullHD, lower resolution, pixels, dpi. Im afraid im not gonna edit my photos as good as Google Pixel.
And i think pixel have a better camera as well?

I got myself the SoftBank Japanese version for around $150-ish and been using it for about 5 months and here are my thoughts:
the good parts:
+ the device is a bit old, released at the end of 2017 but it is still doing good to this day.
+ the battery performance is average but the capacity is definitely not enough.
+ the chipset is capable of doing anything even in 2020, it's the old SD835 but still in the 8xx line up. Games are running smoothly (tested games like PUBG (UE4) and Honkai Impact 3rd (Unity) at the highest graphics setting).
+ Camera is not that bad but also not that extremely good, it's fair enough.
+ for the storage, I think there's no problem as I can also install an sdcard if I run out of storage.
+ headphone jack is definitely there
+ the 5.2" IPS display has a great color and brightness and I believe it does support HDR
+ fingerprint scanner is really fast
+ speakers are good and they're front firing, gets pretty loud and not much distortion
the bad parts:
- the software. altough it's clean and not a lot of bloatwares (not as much as the Japanese DoComo version) but it's running an outdated Android 8, not even 8.1. there's an update to Android 9 tho but, the japanese version would be a pain to update it as it requires a japanese simcard so, I ended up just using the Android 8.
- battery usage is really bad even when the phone is in standby and not used (the device didn't go to deepsleep), it still draw a lot of battery usage. (at the above, I stated that the battery performance is okay and it is. altough it draws power when in standby, but I still going to the one day charge cycle)
- the Japanese version might not work with any sim without doing a sim unlock first.
overall, it's a good device. a bit old but still doing fine.
what bothers me athe most is the software. not being able to do anything with it, not even able to unlock the bootloader to flash a custom rom / recovery (only the Japanese version).
if you are just a casual user, this phone is pretty good. able to game, the used price is not that high, good specs.
if you are a power user, you might want to get the NA/CA version and definitely not the japanese version. you won't be able to do anything with the japanese version.
