It's July 2022: I still use this phone and love it.. I can't believe there are ZERO alternatives. I bought this phone in 2017 and a second time in 2019, because I love the fact that this is a powerful compact phone. I also live battery life and the side-mounted fingerprint scanner.. Everything I loved in a phone in one. It's hard to ever find a good phone after you have used the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact for 5 years.

Still using this in July 2022. Still waiting on a compact android phone to be released with midrange or flagship specs! By compact I mean max 145mm height 70mm width. Iphone mini size. Only releastic option is asus zenphone 8! I wish Sony released compact phone globally. 2022 sony phones are too tall and narrow for my liking.

PawnDies, 19 Jul 2022Anyone bought a refurbished unit? How good is it as a pract... moreI bought this device refurbished in March this year. 4 months later this is what I can say about it in 2022.
First off the design is a matter of preference, but I personally like it. You should consider the black color, since it hides the bezels of the display and makes the device look sleek.
The build quality is very good and the engineering behind it is pretty logical. It has 2 metal plates on the top and the bottom of the phone which stick out of the corners of the panel, so that when you drop it they are sure to take the hit instead of the display etc. The glass fiber plastic and gorilla glass 5 display absorb the shock of the drop itself, so this makes the device lot more durable than the glass sandwiches you see today. I dropped it a few times and everything is working flawless, minor the fact that the metal plates have some scarring due to the drop itself. One thing to note is that while the phone is more durable than the glass sandwiches, it doesn't feel as premium as an Iphone or a Galaxy.
The display is pretty good, considering the resolution it's sharp and the sunlight readability is good. The blacks look nice as well, though not as good as an Amoled. I personally wish it was 5 inch - its a bit uncomfortable for gaming and videos.
The performance is outstanding, I would compare it to a modern high-mid ranger. The reason is the flagship processor of the time + the low resolution = easier on the gpu. I had no issues with the 4GB of ram what-so-ever. One downside is that the device can get hot during gaming and videos - about 42 degrees, but it rarely goes over that. Normal usage is about 37 degrees, which is good.
The storage could be larger, you definetly need an SD card for the photos/music/files. If you do that, you should have enough space for your apps in the internal storage, but I would have loved a 64GB version.
The battery life is pretty good. My battery is supposedly at 91% health and I can get about 6-7 hours SoT with a total of around 24 hours of usage. I generally have no problems with it lasting me through the day.
I use my phone with Android 12 custom rom and everything works good, but you lose the stock camera. If you don't mind that its great.
And finally the camera itself isn't that great imo. It does the job and that's it, don't expect any spectacular photos out of this phone, especially in low lightning.
So the goods:
+Great build quality.
+3.5 jack.
+Great battery life.
+Very good performance, tho it can get a bit hot.
+Very compact size.
Neutral:
+/- Display - could have been a bit larger or have smaller bezels, but otherwise great.
+/- Stereo speakers are nice, but they could be louder.
Meh:
- Camera is bad.
- 64GB storage would have been better instead of 32GB.
Overall I'm quite happy.

This is the legacy of compact phones. The best.
-extremely good handling
-way way way better battery life and way more efficient capacity ratio (more mah, means more degradation, more power needed to charge in reasonable times)
When all those brick-phones fanboys come and say "battery sucks on compact phones", show them this. Battery life was ALWAYS better on compact phones, due to lower consumption, less degradation, AND reasonable chargers (no need for 60/120w chargers).
Man I miss those times.

Hello
I have 2 of this mobile, I love Sony very much and I love this series of compact phones.
But she died, she tried to revive her with what she could find, but unfortunately.
I am in a country where there is no marketing and support for Sony phones.
What do i do? 😭

I bought the docomo version. Since all the 3g shutdowns, I can't make or receive calls anymore. The phone says it supports VoLTE, it has the option in settings, and I've enabled it, I have the 4g+ and good signal strength, but calls end right away when trying to dial. I'm using red pocket GSMA sim right now. These are the only decent phones that aren't the giant ones everyone else sells. I really want to keep using this phone. Does anyone know how to make it work?
