I bought mine for 375 euro, now month after worth 280 euros, Belgrade, Serbia. Noone wants Sony..

As far as I know, your country is pretty much the only country where XZ2 cost more than S9 (even S9+) and V40. In most stories I've heard and read it's the other way around.
At my place, XZ3 cost as S9, and XZ2 is much cheaper (cca 200USD cheaper). What is your point with mentioning FHD and all those disvantages? Heck.. I know some people who wouldn't buy Sony flagship even if it cost 300 USD because they don't like it :).
I know India is really a world on their own.. I mean, here I am, in country with 4 million people and Im trying to translate my valute to USD so everybody can understand me, and you are talking about pricing in only world you know - India with Indian Rupees :) Even the GSMarena has hard time with deciding what price they should put for global. Which is understandable when there is no product which cost the same all around the globe.
I mentioned iPhone Xs Max, not because his elite status, but because of their very different pricing all around the world. That was just example for you to better understand, that is not only brands fault for high pricing for each country.
So, at my place in Croatia EU, iPhone Xs Max with 64GB cost 9500kn (1450 USD). In US and Japan, that one cost 1100 USD. In Serbia (Croatian neighbours) is 170000 RSD (1640 USD). Pretty big difference for the same product. How much is that model in India?
And you didn't answer me about POCO F1, how much is it in India?
I have to agree with you on one thing. Noone with any salt in his brain, would buy XZ2 at that price. It's more that 1000 USD if I calculate right. Almost half of that price is in my country and GSMarena put ˝around 460 EUR (525 USD)˝
With such a high tax on brand from Japan it seems India has a good reason for it. It probably wants people to buy products assembled or made in India. I don't know why is V40 cheaper than XZ2, it does not makes any sense... but here I am, a simple guy from europe in a country with 4 million people talking about situation in India... lol, you can ask google why is so expensive, more than any country in the world.

People still buy two or even three generations old iPhones just for the Apple logo here in India. Regarding taxes yes they are high in India but taxes are there on Samsung and LG too but still they reatail lower in India. Taxes are just a fixed percentage on the price at which the company decides to launch. Also prices drop on Samsung and LG phones in India but the XZ2 is as it is.
Also remember it's the XZ2 not the premium variant which sensible person would buy a Sony phone with FHD display a single rear camera, 64 GB inbuilt storage at 73000 INR. The single rear camera maybe great but is it the best on smartphone ?
Also the device lacks a headphone jack so it's not even suitable for audiophiles. Seriously that high premium price has no justification.

Another thing is samsungs midrange phone is more expensive than the phone in other brand with same specs.

Anonymous, 04 Feb 2019XZ2 was the best but Sony already created xz2 premium and xz3.In June 2018 when I decided to buy a new phone from Sony, there was only XZ2 and XZ2 Compact to choose from. XZ2 Premium officially came out in July, but it becomes available just recently. But I wouldn't buy it even if it was available, because that phone is just too big for me.

Where is the cheapest and where is really expensive (almost 50% difference for some countries) So according to that, I just got to mention Indian taxes..and not just Indian. Every country has their own tax laws. Just look around your self.... Prices for same product in each country is way way different. LG and Samsung are maybe cheaper in your country, and probably better over all, but Sony phones have customers who are basicly Sony fans only. Noone is buying their products because they are technology leaders. I know it's not the best phone out there. But it was the best from Sony back then and I really liked my first experience with Xperia X. Only phone I liked at that time was S9, and I didn't buy it because it was more mainstream (way too popular, every other guy/girl in my company has it). It was also 120USD expensier than XZ2. So there is that. From time to time I hear people coming from Samsung S line because of change. Like I was wanting a change when I changed my LG G4 for Xperia X. But is it worth your paycheck? That's on you. There are tons of chinese brands who offer better value for money, and most probably I am going to do the same in next few years. But for now I am happy with phone I have. No problems with phone at all. I just want to say, there are choices everywhere around you. I am sure each brand knows which countries are their main targets, but also some countries have much different taxes for each product. That's not just the case with phones, it's on every product, like cars. Japanese cars and Korean cars... do you see a big difference in prices between them? Not the greatest example I know... But each country set their prices on each import product.
Does it really seems logic to you that is only Sonys decision to bump up prices for their phones in a country like India where there is so much poverty and most of people don't have anything beside jio feature phone? It's taxes. That's why we don't have same prices. How much is POCO F1 in India? Here in Croatia, EU cost 3300kn or 509USD. It was advertise as a 300USD phone right? Well... not in every country.

Who will buy the ridiculous FHD XZ2 for 72000 INR when we can get the S9+ for 52900 INR and V40 for 50000 INR. So my country taxes don't affect Samsung and LG but only Sony. Ridiculous argument forget Chinese first bring down the prices to Samsung's level then you see.

hello, 24 Nov 2018hello friends xperia xz2 or galaxy s9?My friend at work has Galaxy S9. Besides S9 having 3.5mm jack and different design which looks better in my opinion, because it looks like XZ3 but more compact, they are really comparable devices.
In day light situations I would say my XZ2 has upper hand with photos because it's natural colors and contrast. Video looks really good especially in FHD. Unless you use 4k HDR, when it starts to stutter a bit (sd845!?), everything is on pair or sligthly better then on S9 camera (in my opinion).
But in low light situations, I have to admit that S9 produces better pictures with more realistic colors and less noise.
And lastly, I am not a guy who take selfies or do video calling at all, but selfie cam on S9 is indeed much better. In fact, in my opinion selfie cam is the biggest difference between them. That and night shots ofc. Preformance on both devices shouldn't be the issue. I took the XZ2 instead of S9, only because I like Sonys minimal UI and some features Im used to have on my previous phone Xperia X, which was my first Sony device. In other words, you can't go wrong if you choose XZ2 over S9, or S9 over XZ2. Choice mostly depends on your personal needs and taste.

It can't fight the chinese brands and that's a fact. Bigger problem is in yours country big import taxes and your laws with wages and tariffs. So, it's not only Sonys fault. Just recently Europe and Japan sign the trade pact. All EU products will be much cheaper in Japan, and vice versa. That kind of agreement your country needs if you want for Sony or any other global brand to be affordable. But I doubt it will happend. India is so huge and so different than the rest of world... It needs products taylored only for them. And that's pretty much what we see now. You have your brands who are your no.1, rest of the world has their own, because of uniqnes of each market.

Vvvky, 02 Feb 2019Sorry but I don't find the XZ2 camera better than the S9+ a... moreIts because of the software processing that they have, I guess they should improve the bionz in odder to compete with huawei mate pro or other leading camera phone, another thing is the aperture, that is when it comes to lowlight but remember that they are one of the phone that have augmented reality effect on camera which os also very unussual for smartphone to have.

But I must say...Sony has drop XZ2 prices a lot since it's introduction in April 2018. When I bought it in June, it cost exactly the same as S9 now ~ 800 USD, while S9 was 930 USD (6000KN). Sony flagship phones are dropping their value much faster than Samsung does with their S and Note line.
