BOWRAIN, 18 May 2018Why was the Sony Xperia Z2 Compac not released in Australia?Dunno. I bought my XZ2c in Singapore for about $615. My previous phone XZ1c was also purchased outside Australia through ebay.

I like compact phones. I've been using galaxy a3 for some time. My ideal phone design is that of galaxy a3 size with s9 top bezel and round fingerprint scanner in the bottom like iphone 8. And with led notification. That will be the best compact phone.

I was waiting for the XZ2 compact, only to find out it does not have 3.5mm jack. I have (expensive) Sony noise cancelling phones and I cannot use it with this phone. I also wanted a 3.5mm jack, so I can listen to music in my car or even hook it up to my hi-fi system. Yes, Sony supply an adaptor, but it is another thing to carry around....

Sony should also have an FM radio. Whilst there are internet radio apps, but they make the phone very hot, but I hate the stuttering, then there are reception problems.

i've held this phone in my hand today while visiting a local store and was positively surprised. the XZ2 couple looked kinda... silly on pictures and reading that it's backed by plastic didn't help either. well, i don't know what the regular XZ2 feels and handles like since the store didn't have one, unfortunately, but the Compact makes a much better hands-on impression than pictures might have you think. the back is plastic, but it's a very nice one. kind of frosted with an ever so slightly roughened texture. some warmed up glass backs felt decidedly more plasticky next to it. then there's the metal frame that was also treated to a slight texture rather than being glossy and polished. next up, the shape. obviously, the phone is curvy and relatively thick by current design standards, but it follows the natural curvature of the fingers when held and, partly due to its smaller size, comfortably rests in the hand. the back's curve also neatly blends into the curved frame which then itself blends into the slightly curved screen. it's not 100% seamless, but you shouldn't feel any uncomfortable edges.
truth be told, i'm almost a little infatuated with the design after initially approaching it with skepticism and if i was looking for a compact device, i'd put this one above any other (not like there's plenty of options to begin with). Sony went their own way here, as Japanese companies tend to do for better or for worse, but it seems they knew what they were doing

It is a real great deal for compact smartphones, but the only disadvantage is the thickness. it is fat :P

I would like to see more compact phones not only from Sony. I am still using my S4 mini currently and I have to switch to a more powerful compact android smartphone.

I think XZ2 Compact is a real deal if you are looking a small powerful device. My only issue as I have big hands is that it seems to be designed for right handed people only. Use your right thumb to power on/off and right index finger to unlock/lock fingerprint scanner.

Very uncomfortable to use this phone with left hand.

Well, thickness - good, good battery - even better, but xz1 compact is thinner and has better battery life :)). No headphone jack - bad, very bad, i see it like that: sony is trying to sell more devices with LDAC. Double sim - perfect 👌 bravo sony. Plastic body - very bad, phone should be solid like a brick. I understand that fingerprint scanner on the back made device more bendproof but it is not enough. I would suggest using stainless steel ( don't forget the price sony is asking for xz2 c.) conclusion: i will be waiting for xz3 compact. P.s: Sony, if you are offering PlayStation with Xperia xz2 in some countries, you should do it everywhere. It is very mean from you making such offer in states but not in Europe, considering the fact that we pay highet price, same number but in euros €€€.

By adding some thickness to this phone Sony did the right thing. It feels good in the hand. People are so brainwashed to complain about thickness and missing head phone jack. So what. There is an adapter that you can use, just plug it in to the heads and leave them in place.

Also good that Sony used plastic case back in compact. Finally some material again that does not play as finger print magnet.

Display is 5" --> bigger than iPhone 8.

A quote from the link above:
But USB audio is different. In this case, the SoC sends the digital data straight out through the USB port and there is ZERO processing done on the device side. Of course, since neither your headphones (nor you) can process the digital signal, it has to be converted to analog at some point. This is why every device connected to the USB port for audio purposes HAS TO HAVE ITS OWN DAC/ADC built-in.

So.. what he said is true. The dac chip inside xperia is indeed us[e]less. Because You can only hear it from the built-in speakers.

All outputs from the usb are digital. Your headphone is analog.
If you use "usb to headphone jack converter", the digital signal from usb would be converted to analog by the little chip inside your converter.
So you better becareful.. never use cheap low quality converter.
