I have bought this phone a few days ago and I must say it is awesone. The battery lasts solid 2 days (unless you're a very heavy user) and even an hour of NFS Most Wanted didn't get the temperature up very much (yes, it was warmer, but absolutely ok). No lags at all, everything is snappy, even multitasking (1,66 gigs of free ram -> it doesn't need to close the apps on the background). The screen has far better viewing angles than I expected after the reviews. On the other hand, the camera urgently needs to get rid of the noise - I hope an update will fix this, because the camera doesn't shoot as good as 20MP and that optics should. Although the colors look very realistic, it can't handle the darkness (the same pictures in dark look sharper in HTC Sensation than Z1 Compact - I can read some text in shadow better from a photo of my Sensation, on the Z1 Compact it is much harder). Second thing I can reproach are the bezels - the space on the botom could really have been used for sensoric buttons and the top for stereo speakers or something. The waterproofness works, wchich is cool =)

I’ve been HTC supporter for the last few years and decided to change to Sony Xperia Z1 Compact last Saturday out of curiosity and the specs were very tempting.
The phone itself is beautiful and feels premium. The only drawback is that plastic back is a disappointment but not a major issue.
So far everything is good. No lag with apps and games. Battery can last 1 ½ days with moderate usage. The only thing I don’t like about Sony is UI (Sense is way easier and better) and the screens and back plastic is prone to scratch… highly recommended to use back cover and screen protector.
The Camera is overhyped I’'d say. Day time shots are excellent but night shots are terrible. HTC is better in this regards.
Anyway, just sharing my experience. It’s overall an outstanding smartphone in mini sizes but I am not sure if I will buy SONY again.

There is always a lot of anxiety as the next-generation of phones comes out. Unfortunately, this phone is mid-generation. Let's be patient and see what the Z2 Compact, HTC One compact and Iphone.6 have to offer us Within the next few months they should give us warranted phones of quality specs for our needs. Not shoddy full of scratches last decades technology. Either they will deliver or they won't. Either they will answer their customer's needs or they won't. Let's see what post -Tsunami Japan had to offer us.

amir, 16 Mar 2014I found that there was some thing wrong about this phone in... moreOnly a thousand professional reviewers has said its IPS, plus some Sony officials.
By the way, TFT is an underlying technology that is present no matter what, panel type (like IPS) is something different.

MiCo, 15 Mar 2014I'm about to buy a phone tomorrow but I'm so confused betwe... morehi MiCo,
I have been going through the same question myself , the price point of both the phones are same in my country .
Undoubtedly Z1Compact blow past GS4 in
1) Design and aesthetic
2) UI (less bloatwares and gimmicks)
3) Sheer horsepower
The only thing that creates doubts is the Camera dept.
coz as an android user for quite some years and the thing that really matters is overall media entertainment thus camera is utmost imp , so going through various reviews sites channels and forums , I found that z1 and z1 compact have been rated poor in low light photography as compared to GS4
So if you have little concern for Camera then Nexus 5 is the best option then S4
If camera is ur concern as mine then wait till Z1c gets update to fix some issues to overcome poor performance

AnonD-235859, 15 Mar 2014Hi S.av
I agree with you point that Zr does not feel premi... moreBattery isnt about battery size, ZR has old tech display that doesnt let much light through. LCD panels like that has subpixels with two layers of transparent electrodes, one on each side of the LC layer, this seriously reduces brightness and to compensate these displays use stronger backlight which again drains the battery very fast.
Now one valid question is how could ZR do so well in the battery test and it has a very simple explanation, ZR was tested at a brightness of only 128 nits, thats very dim, most phones would be around the 200 nits mark during the battery test.
Further, ZR is a very bad phone, 8GB internal storage is unforgivable and the front cam is horrible. It is the Xperia V2, do not under any circumstance buy ZR.

dude i have z1 and my brother has the compact as he just switched from iphone 5s to compact. Compact looks are more cooler specially in white color and most importantly sony has used ips lcd display in compact which isnt in z1. Therefore, display is also better than z1 . Go for the compact :)

Sony Xperia Z1 has great specs but scratches easily which makes it embarrassing to show off to friends and difficult to sell as used. Cannot take pictures in low light as shown in big brother Z1's videos. I was disappointed as if Sony was trying to dupe us. When actually seeing & handling this phone in street shop (I have not yet heard of Sony selling this model with a warranty from a Sony dealer).(very, very, strange) I found a plastic back & sticky tape covered front at a time when iphone 6 is going to sapphire screens.

I wouldn't recommend removing the soft plastic tape covering the front glass. It is probably there to hold the glass together in case of a lithium battery explosion which has happened in quite a few phones already.

AnonD-242824, 11 Mar 2014That is the whole point Ritesh , the 720p resolution makes ... moreHi S.av
I agree with you point that Zr does not feel premium in hand when compare to Z1 compact , but i do not agree with your following points
1) Battery life is so much better in this z1 compact
--- Battery is same in both the handsets that is Li-ion 2300 mAh. So no difference in battery life.Whereas I believe to operate an APQ8974-AA processor which is clocked at 2.26 Ghz Quad Core having Krait 400 will use more battery than APQ8064 processor which is clocked at 1.5 Ghz Quad Core having Krait 200 that is Zr.
2) Zr isn't waterproof -
--- Zr is an water proof and dust proof phone that is IP58 certified which is higher than Xperia Z certification (IP57 certified ).Infect none of the sony phone are certified higher than this not even Xperia Z2 ( IP58 ).
But I must say that Z1 compact is the fastest phone available in this segment deploying 2.26 Ghz of processing power and an 32-Bit Dual Channel LPDDR3 Ram with 800Mhz of processing power which simply means 12.8 GB/s transfer rate compare to LPDDR2 RAM with just 533 Mhz of processing power in Xperia Zr.
And obviously Adreno 330 give boost to gaming experience compare to 320 of xperia Zr.
So Z1 compacts rocks but its individual choice what they want from a phone ....does the features justify the price...??
Warm Regards,
Ritesh Pardeshi
