Chinmay, 22 Oct 2013I think as far as specifications and size of the Phone is c... moreHi Chinmay, I agree with you. I think Steve Jobs was right. However only as an example I saw the DROID RAZR M with a 4,3" screen and a very thin bezel, so at the end it is about how well the phone is designed, so the dimensions are right. But here comes the problem. Who can define right dimensions? As I see people simply love big phones, I guess in order to have a better experience with the apps. But like you wrote the trend is changing. I think the xperia Z1 mini is more about showing the limits, because I simply do not see any competitors in this size category. I even doubted about the specs but they seem possible/real since the Z1f was announced in Japan. Samsung introduced the mini versions of its high end phones but only as a gimmick. I think the mini - name was linked to the poor hardware. Sony seems really to deliver a version in which the name mini is related only with the size. Now it is the turn of the battery industry. You simply cannot enjoy such a smartphone if you have to live next to a power outlet and I am afraid with small dimensions you will not get a proper battery. Greetings.

Anonymous, 18 Oct 2013I kind of agree with him, because of the new Sharp Full HD ... morePPI does not matter anymore when you cross the 330ppi barrier as you need to hold the screen directly in your face to notice ANY kind of pixelation. Right now the focus needs to be on making the screens brighter, more power efficient and better colour calibrated.
At 5 inches 1080p does make a difference but on a screen size smaller than 4.5 inches I doubt there will be many people who would be able to discern the difference between 720p and 1080p when held at arms length.
The resolution race needs to stop now.

I think as far as specifications and size of the Phone is concerned it is a good Phone. Now new rat race has begun.Previously people wanted large screen Phone for overall Smartphone experience. Now trend is changed and people want small screens.I think Steve Jobs was right in saying that Phone's Screen shouldn't exceed 4 inches. If you want a Phone just for a Photography then it is better to buy DSLR than a Smartphone. You will just have to pay more rupees but you will get the finest results.

r, 18 Oct 2013buy a phablet please and there are many large phones in mar... moreHi, I agree 100% with paxy. People who like phones around 5" have really a lot of options not only from sony. In my opinion this is the one which can really be considered a state of the art device, specially because of its size. I am afraid the fun will be ruined only by the battery, nevertheless I started today to put some money away, I think sony can make a fortune with this phone if it becomes a reality. Many specs really sound very high, but I changed my mind after the Z1f was announced. Greetings to all of you.

r, 18 Oct 2013buy a phablet please and there are many large phones in mar... moreI kind of agree with him, because of the new Sharp Full HD 4.5 inch display, that would be so perfect in this phone, then it would have best specs everyting, and it would not necessarily make it any bigger, maybe add an mm or two to the width.
Like it or not but the PPI of this phone is well below other flagships, and that's a disadvantage for everyone except farsighted people who deny that they need reading glasses (which seems to be all of them)

Bh the way, about battery, we can agree that display is the number one battery drainer, so lets compare display sizes vs battery sizes, Z1 Mini vs Z1.
4.3 has a 26% smaller area than a 5 inch display, requiring 26% lower power for the backlight at similar brightness.
2300mah is 24.4% smaller than 3000mah of Z1.
In addition, Z1 Mini has almost 3x lower resolution, less work to do, power saved, probably not much but should make a small but yet noticeable difference (wish it didnt have lower resolution anyway)

AnonD-148870, 16 Oct 2013the battery is insufficient for this Beast ! the phone is a... moreI dont think its that big, its easy to find bigger 4.3 inchers. For example HTC One Mini is a full 5mm longer, Xperia L is longer as well, not to mention the BlackBerry Z10 which is both longer and wider despite being only a 4.2 incher (it has 15:9 aspect ratio though). Galaxy S4 Mini doesnt really count since it is pure plastic, its easy to shrink dimensions when not using advanced materials, but still its not that much smaller than Z1 Mini.
So some are bigger and some are smaller, safe to say that Z1 Mini has an average size.
Agree that they could have made it thicker and added some more battery instead but i think battery life will be sufficient. I checked my usage habits and found that when i do really heavy continuous usage i am at home anyway and the charging dock is right beside me. When im out, be it day or night, i dont have time to use the phone that extensively, if i did it would mean i had nothing worthwhile to do or that the party was very boring with no pretty girls, and then i should have stayed at home in the first place anyway, right next to the charger. I do however have a power bank i sometimes bring along if i suspect it will be a long day with too much waiting/free time in daylight that drains battery faster due to the high brightness settings required.

the battery is insufficient for this Beast ! the phone is already thick so that element was already gone why not give in a 3000mah battery!? and the bezels could have been smaller so in my opinion, even though the screen is small, the phone ends up being Big in the first place and ruins the point of it.

Just noticed that it's smaller than Xperia L, which also has 4.3 inch display. Very nice size, the regular Z1 makes me worried, they really should have made it a bit thicker instead of that long and wide. I think I will not get Z1, it's simply too long, I feel my Xperia Z is already stretching it and then the Z1 is expanding into Galaxy Note 2 territory, wtf, that's too much, I dont want to have that big phone again.

Juanito Alcachofa, 16 Oct 2013Looks like its a pretty good phone, but with 3 little detai... moreWhy do you need more internal Storage when you have the option of a Sd card? Why do you need more Ram? Why an Octa Core?? I'm sure an Android 4.3 update will be available... but WHY THE H*LL do you need 2K (2160p) on a Cellphone?
I would prefer 1080p on that size to have an amazing 512PPI and a larger battery, let say 3000Mamp to be able to use it for two days in a row with a single charge. IPS Panel instead of the TFT. And NOT more Megapixel or Higher Video resolution recording, but a bigger IMAGE SENSOR. Those things DO matter.
I have a Samsung S4 (i9500) and the whole deal with Quad vs Octa isn't much a big deal in a cellphone. Neither it is 2Gb or 3Gb of Ram.
