AnonD-536500, 13 May 2016damn- sorry for your experience- it sucks realizing that yo... moreIMHO..... It really depends upon personal preference....to me it is better to buy a last year "Flagship" phone rather than current year "Mid ranger"..why....??
+ You can get longer update support from company than mid ranger.(examples of XPERIA SP and XPERIA Z are in front of you)
+ More developer support from XDA and other forums.(like root, recoveries, custom roms... if company ditched the phone for further updates you can get latest android version from prestigious developers,Chances of developer support of Midranger phone is less than that of Flagships)
+Xperia Z3 vs Samsung A5 (2016): IMHO.... It depends upon you.... I haven't use any Samsung phone because I hate the burn in issue of AMOLED. So I will give you my honest comparison based on paper specs hope it will help you....
If you want good performance, reliable able Display (LCD does not have Burn in issue), better UI(IMHO), and if camera is not a big deal for you (If you not a hard core photographer,if you are, I would recommend to buy Low end or Budget DSLR, it would way better than any smartphone camera ) , then Go for SONY Z3.
+ If you want solid metal built , Slightly better camera in low light and indoors due f1.9 although it may not be a huge difference, better front camera, an Go for SAMSUNG A5 (2016)
+Battery on both of them will be same.
---- If I were you then first of all I would think What are my priorities... my priorities are Price> Design> Performance> Battery>Display> Durability> UI> Camera.
There are certain things which we can't upgrade especially in smartphones.Like Processor, ram, e.t.c, Until the release of Project ARA then there will be no problem of camera, processor, ram internal storage e.t.c e.t.c ,on the other hand If there is no official update no problem we can install custom roms based on latest android version,if you are not satisfied with camera no problem you can buy DSLRs and Camcorders, but if your processor is slow or your ram is low you can't upgrade it or change it.
Regarding to fragility of Z3 i would every smart phones are fragile from one side i.e. front side or screen side but because of glass on the back side of Z3 it is fragile from both sides ... applying covers will minimize the color degrading of aluminum frame it is like a bumpers present on the vehicles....its up to you if you do care of your stuff it will last longer and IMHO it depends upon your fate...
so Z3 vs Samsung A5 (2016).... I would go for Z3 (C6603) bcz of performance, UI, Developer support, you can live with the camera of Z3. the only phone I am considering from Samsung is Galaxy S7 Edge...but its cost is very high and By the I am also student can't afford it right now I am not able to find better phone than Z3 and despite of experience with D6616 variant I can't try to hate Z3 i don't know why . and also it not officially sold in my country which means no warranty at all but I still love SONY, It is good brand just need to improve their camera little bit....Strange thing is that other brands like Samsung also use SONY camera sensor but I don;t know why SONY ruin their camera in their own Xperias....
I have considered LG G4 but its camera is good but battery is not good and also it has some issues in OIS while recording videos and one major issue of boot looping.
S6 has no SD Card and low battery performance... Hope you will under stand what I am saying.... Correct me if I am wrong .... thanks...:)

But just handle them with care it will do. I just enjoy using it before I let it go. Other phone sleep before it'll be sold.

AnonD-536594, 12 May 2016Massart, I have been using this phone for the past 10 month... morei do baby my phones, actually, but i do not like the idea of cases and screen protectors combined, especially on such a good-looking phone. screen protectors alone is fine with me. but here it seems i'd need more than just those. thats a naw-naw.
i can begin to imagine yours being 1.x mm thicker already due to the metal case frame? i don't know about yours, but the frames i have seen are not discreet in the least way. too bulky.
propensity to heat does not bother me as i am not much of a heavy user (think hours on graphics-intensive activities)
damn, it has such good specs and the price has significantly dropped now. but it seems like it's gonna be quite a hussle just getting it to survive possible/occassional "bumps" (e.g. couch to carpet) thanks tho.

ex Z3 Owner, 12 May 2016I have it for about 2 days, and return it to shopkeeper and... moredamn- sorry for your experience- it sucks realizing that you made a wrong purchase when it's already too late. lucky for me tho, in Nairobi (Kenya) there is only the D6603 variant so i won't be crossing paths with the D6616 at all. a quick google search revealed that it's also quite difficult rooting that model so getting rid of the bloatware is quite a task too.
as far as specs and performance go, i agree the Z3 is just near perfect. very good. one more (and HUGE) Plus to me is that it supports Hi-Res audio via USB and it has quite a decent amp for its headphone jack.
i think for best results with the camera, you could try using the manual mode- but it will take a bit of tweaking around to get the best quality/detailed shots.
currently, here, the Z3 retails at almost the same price as the Samsung A5 2016: 47k ($470) and 44k ($440) respectively, and the A56 seems to have the better build quality albeit lower performance as its only a midranger. the later flagships of 2015 & 2016 are just too expensive: 50k+ (i'm still in campus, full-time, so not working)
the task here is choosing between the Z3 and the A56. of course, i should just pick the one with the better specs- Z3, but then i wouldn't feel as confident with it as i would with the A56. the latter feels really solid. and build quality is really important to me as i wouldn't want to carry around a "biscuit" for the next 2 years or so before changing to the next phone. would you pick the A56 in place of the Z3?

So the xperia z3. Its a decent size easy to fit in the pocket but not so good on the wallet still an expensive phone. The android 6.0.1 update is responsive and smooth with no issues. Camera is awesome really fast shutter speed and battery is great. Its a pocket size powerhouse still easily capable of anything you can throw at it just dont throw it drop it put in your pocket with keys etc the glass unibody design will cost a bomb to repair

I take good care of the phone, probably thats the reason I havent got any screen cracking issues yet. I have put an aluminium frame case so that I dont have to worry about putting the phone in the pocket, phone getting bent, etc. Its very slim so I have took that precaution of using the aluminium frame. I have also put a hardened 9H tempered glass on top. It gets a bit hot while playing games which are very highly intense in graphics and while using camera under hot sun but I guess thats how today's smartphones work. Battery and Performance is outstanding. Its a waterproof phone but I have not checked it as I have put my hard earned money on this. You take good care of this phone, it will never let you down.

AnonD-536500, 12 May 2016a question for OWNERS of the Z3- how is the build quality o... moreI have it for about 2 days, and return it to shopkeeper and he deducted 50USD as surcharge....
It was my fault because I made a wrong decision to purchase T-mobile Variant of Z3(D6616)...
I got tempted because this variant has 32 GB internal memory....
Everything was fine, but I was dependent on T-mobile for Future updates and It had also bloatware which I can't disable it even with DEBLOATER software. I tried De bloater Software but it cause force close system. On the other hand Lollipop has some heating issues and my phone got heatup quickly while using camera ,and I have heard Marshmallow has fixed this issue but I have searched a lot about MM on D6616 or any custom rom but could not find anything....
So that was the main reason I have returned it back to shopkeeper because I am not justify my self to live with it and I am satisfied Despite of loosing 50 USD for no use... because I don't have that freedom which I could get from Global version of Z3 (D6603),
So if you really going to buy this phone, I would suggest go for unlocked international variant D6603,you can get Updates of bugs fixes, improvements and latest android version for sure and direct from SONY, and you are free from everything ,you can use it all over the world, and can get huge developer support.
In my opinion this is good phone.... nothing is perfect in this world...every phone has its pros and cons...so according to my experience (everyone has its own opinion)
+Looks so awesome (this phone really impressed my Friends a lot)
                          + Display is gorgeous
+ Battery life is also good, I get 5hrs+ SOT with stamina mode on and wifi on all the time and i get about 24hrs from 100% - 10% ( Considering Z3 t-mobile variant... Global (D6603) variant may has better because of bloatware-less)
+ It is snappier phone but I feel D6603 is more snappier than T-mobile variant.( I have compared both of them).
+Considering Bloatware,Facebook and whats app open all the time, there is always 1 GB ram free.
+ Camera is Good in daylight.... average in low light and indoors (It is not as good as I expected may be my expectation were high),In video department same experience in daylight and bright light it great but in low and indoor light it is average but there in no problem lowering of frame rates and Stabilization is best ,better than OIS camera out there. Its just my experience may be I don't how to use it...
+ Heating ...yes it can heat up but not over heat and every phone heats up under stress and considering Water proofing it heats little bit more, you can feel heat but it will not gonna burn your hands, but if you feel that it start becoming uncomfortable just stop using for a while when it cooled down start using it again,IMHO...It is also depends upon ambient temperature in other word room temperature.Higher room temperature your device will heat up quickly and vice versa...
+ Durability. is it fragile...??? I would say yes.. after all it is made up of glass... to me its truly depends upon your fate, If you take care of it and apply glass protectors on both sides and use some back covers it will minimize the risk of cracking the glass.one more thing you should apply protectors both front and back because it scratches very easily..
+Water proofing: Don't trust on that feature. It is only helpful in raining don't wash it or dunk it under water, or swimming pool.
                          +Verdict:
According to experience, If you want phone which have good Design, Display, Battery life, Performance, nice camera (not Great) then this phone will be good choice (just Consider Global unlocked version d6603, don't go for and carrier variant please).
The only thing that not looks good to me is it camera May be I high expectations from its camera. If I have skipped any thing just tell me I will help you
Despite of having bad experience with t-mobile variant of Z3 ,I am considering to buy it again but at this time D6603 Global variant or may be it younger brother Z2 or may be its elder brother Z5 with other brands like Samsung S7 (considering this only bcz of camera,....Will buy it when its price will comes down), but I will own sony device not for camera but for all other things like Design, performance,Battery,UI e.t.c...I don't know why may be still I have soft heart for SONY.....:)
Peace .... God bless you..... May you get best worth for your money....

a question for OWNERS of the Z3- how is the build quality of this device? since specs and available android updates only tell half of the story. i have read a lot of complaints regarding the fragility of this phone, that it cannot handle the day-to-day stresses that a MOBILE device is supposed to endure. in addition to that: self-cracking screens, bent frames, not really water-proof etc. can anyone shed some light on this, preferrably based on personal experience, or third-person experience (has to be someone you know owns the device) thanks.

Specs-wise the Sony Xperia z3 is a very good phone under 25k price tag but my only concern is that it is 2014 launched smartphone and this is 2016 where smartphones manufacturers like samsung have introduced many other really useful features in their 2016 models namely a5,7,9 .ie fast charging mode, fingerprint scanner, theme centre and stuff that has slightly shifted the advantage to the competitior's half.
