AnonD-312301, 11 Nov 2014this tablet can make direct 3G call or not? Have you looked at the specs of the various models listed here om GSMArena and/or done any reading or searching as suggested? If not, why not?
The SGP621 can, in fact, make GSM (2G) calls on the four international frequencies.

So I've been playing with alternative ways to making phone calls without using telecomm service. I figured it out with Google Voice VoIP. What you can do is make and receive calls, text, MMS through a Google Voice number, install Hangout, and Hangout Dialer, use Hangout to take over and receive everything. So you can just have a tablet $10 line service + data plan. - The only thing is I wished they had a flash on this tablet. It makes it less of a phone with out a flash and they could have added the front facing flash too wouldn't have hurt.

broncofw, 06 Nov 2014Dear SOMEONE!! PLEASE TELL ME..since April 2010 i've been l... moreI think every Samsung tablet has a variant that can make phone calls. The US carriers choose not to import them. I've been using a Note 8 (model N5100) as my phone for almost 2 years on AT&T's network. I bought it new on Amazon. The model sold by AT&T has the telephony app removed, the ear speaker, and the mic.
The Z3 Tablet Compact if its sold by the carriers, will probably have the telephony removed. If that's the case, buy the international version. The LTE bands may not be compatible, but it should work fine with HSPA on AT&T or T-Mobile.

I think I can understand your requirement.
I've been using a Samsung Galaxy Note 8" with GSM feature(Yes, I can receive calls and SMS just like normal smart phones do) for more than 14 months. What I can suggest is, import the device you want from outside of US will do. FYI, I am from Malaysia, and Sony Z3 Tablet Compact will be my next choice.

Dear SOMEONE!! PLEASE TELL ME..since April 2010 i've been looking for an IPAD or IPAD MINI sized tablet that can make regular phone calls and text messages like regular cell phones/smartphones....all the US VERSIONS of samsung galaxy tabs and other tablets have been stripped of the GSM antenna capability so they dont have phone calls...i see the phone logo on this device and i see it on all the ads for the compact tablet but can this tablet make regular phone calls and receive calls/texts and send texts? Can i put my phone number on this device and use it with AT&T or any other major big 4 network? please answer this CNET or someone else.....all i hear from Sony reps is I'm not sure or check the website.....i've read somewhere u MUST use bluetooth but I think all these tablets should have this capability regardless where i can hold up the phone to my face and speak and also use speakerphone if i want. Please let me know SOMEONE!!!!!
Does the micro SD automatically mean that it can do phone features (GSM calling, SMS)? I know the big 4 wireless companies in america want to keep iphones and ipads separate to generate 2 different streams of revenue but I think its time to merge them!

Once I purchased the Z Ultra I updated it to kitkat straight away. We all know that apps can't be moved to the Sd card that is why I am asking if there is any way around it, do I have to explain to you in another language?

Good news is.that I emailed Sony regarding phone functionality and they have confirmed to me that the tablet with the simple slot will enable you to make phone calls normally.just like any smartphone or phablet. This is good news so it means this will be my next device after I have finished withm Z Ultra.

mas39, 03 Nov 2014Oh you are such a simple person aren't you, where have you ... moreYou know Android and say they 'can't.' Then you come here to ask how they can. Really? So, which is it: A. They can't B. They can?
Correct answer, and from personal knowledge (as I own the Z3 D6603): Some can; some cannot. It also worked this way on the Sony Ericsson Ray.
1. If they are an APK, no problem; just copy and transfer the file.
2. For the ones which copy, uh, do that.
3. If from the PLAY store, and will not copy, download again.
Many may need an update when they reach 4.4.4 anyway...if you want them to work. So, why not get them fresh and waste so much time?
If none of this works, you have an outdated OS or an iPhone.

So, get it; get a large memory card with enough memory for your needs; download your aps and immediately transfer them to the memory card.
You being an android user, having access to this site and the specs for this device, I am amazed you could not figure this out yourself.

You're talking as though games and apps don't exist on Android, the storage on my Z Ultra is almost full. There should be a way in which apps can be moved to the SD Card, I wonder if you'll have a solution to this, I very much doubt it.

AnonD-52006, 24 Oct 2014this really matters to me...
can we transfer apps like fb ... moreIt has a micro SD card...
So even if you buy the 16gb version and run out of space.. can always use the SD card to store other apps.
How many apps do you need to fill up 16gb of space.
Most are pictures and videos which one can safely store by investing in a big SD card.
I have Xperia Z2 phone and it has 16gb internal memory but I added a 64gb Mem Card and now I never run out space.
