The battery is user-removeable. There is a youtube vid from chinese press conference which shows it removed. It shares this positive characteristic with Xperia V.

t72, 21 Jun 2013I purchased this phone yesterday (India), immediately fell ... moreI envy u brother, I could only wish to hold it. The problem with Sony is that they're thinking that high quality phones needs to be 5" and they think people needs that big screen. But the truth is that more than 50% of the world needs a compact device, sorry iphone you're in the border line. ZR has the ideal screen size based on the following (4"+5")/2=4.5". Local telcos here in Sg, you had rather cancelled the release of SP and wisely choose to release the ZR here. SP is heavy, sluggish camera with unimpressive results and afraid with water and dust. XZ is uncomfortable to hold and it has a poor battery life but Sony wants u to turn off the screen always to extend the battery life, furthermore it's not user replaceable. ZR should be the best valued phone in the market.

i have recently inquired about the launch into the UK and have received the following 2 emails...
"Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.
Thank you for your interest in the Sony Xperia ZR.
In regards to the release of the Sony Xperia ZR in the UK, this decision is not solely made by Sony.
Once a handset is manufactured the release in the UK depends on being selected by the Network providers to sell the handset. If the phone is not picked up by the networks then the handset is not usually released into the UK market.
This may be subject to change, however at the present time there are no plans to release this handset in the UK.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

I purchased this phone yesterday (India), immediately fell in love with it. The UI is blazing fast! It also has a small notification light strip at the bottom. It is very compact to hold. My XZR came with screen guard as standard fitting. I am yet to test the waterproof aspect. As of this date it is available for INR Rs. 29,500

I also hope it will be available in the UK but someone somewhere said that Sony UK did take it off their webpage recently. So I am not sure what will happen. Expansys still lists it as coming soon but Clover and other retailers don;t have it.

Hi Sony Mobile Sg, what's your reason of not releasing this phone here in Sg? Afraid that XZ sales will be affected? Hmm, XZ is too big and battery life is poor and not replaceable. I am waiting for the ZR, it's perfectly sized smartphone, if I need a bigger screen I'll use a tablet at home only. Look at iphone5, people here are buying because they think that its size is enough and that's true, with 4.55", ZR will be a better option, using simple calculation,an ideal screen size = (4"+5")/2=4.5" Ok Nokia got it exactly, but Lumia 92x have bigger phone size compared to the ZR, so ZR is the winner in terms of geometry...

First impressions:
Pros:
Fits in hand and pocket much better than 5 inch phones.
Very snappy performance.
Sony customization is good, but there are some things they've left out.
Cons:
Some JB features missing - no quiet hours or message quick reply from the notification drag down.
Cannot move apps to SD card.
The white color is likely to get dirty quickly.

Ultimately superb is specs and everything for under 30k but it should have an hd front cam
If Nokia gives it for 720. Sony shod learn their mistakes and hope corrects it soon........
